Many thanks again, guys. I have been looking at numerous videos (Youtube etc). Despite how simple the video guys seem to succeed, nothing they show actually helps my case. Helmut has suggested running DISM and SFC. I'm afraid I am most reluctant to do this as I will be very much out of my depth. (I don't even know what these items are). I do not wish to totally screw up my computer !! This stuff is for experts like you guys!
I find this all very frustrating, especially as the partition which holds the C- drive and W11 also holds the Realtek drivers used by W10 (which is in a different partition). My speaker icon at the bottom of the screen states that "no audio device is installed". As the audio devices do actually exist, I assume this message means that W11 cannot find the drivers for these devices.
Also, I am reluctant to reinstall/repair W11 again. I do not mind that it takes 2.5 hours. I just do not expect that it will be any better next time round.
Your further comments will be most welcome. If I had any hair left, I would pull it out !!! Brian
