My laptop is not displaying correctly in my Microsoft account—showing an older build number—and is no longer synchronizing after restoring a system image. How can I fix this?

This is co-pilots response. Hope it helps.

When you restore a system image, Windows often brings back older cloud‑registration tokens and device IDs. That can cause exactly what you’re seeing — the Microsoft account portal shows an outdated build number, and the device stops synchronizing. The OS itself may be fully updated, but the cloud metadata is no longer valid.

Here are the steps that normally fix this:

1. Re‑register the device with your Microsoft account

Open an elevated PowerShell window and run:
dsregcmd /leave
dsregcmd /join
This forces Windows to drop the stale cloud identity and create fresh registration tokens.

2. Sign out and back into your Microsoft account

Go to:Settings → Accounts → Email & accounts Remove your Microsoft account entry (if the option is available), then add it back. This re-establishes the sync relationship.

3. Check Windows Backup / Sync settings

Go to:Settings → Accounts → Windows backup Make sure the following are turned on:

  • Remember my preferences
  • Other Windows settings
If these are off, the device won’t push updated metadata to your Microsoft account.

4. Remove the stale device entry online

Visit your Microsoft account device list and remove the old entry.A fresh one should appear once the device successfully re-registers.

5. Let Windows Update finish

If the restored image was from an older build, Windows may need to complete updates before the correct build number appears in your account.

If you try the above steps, your device should start synchronizing again and show the correct build number in your Microsoft account.

Thanks I will try that, I discover that you can't delete older computers at the moment from your account, but thats a Microsoft problem, I am going try this.
