Solved NOTEPAD - Automatic Naming Suggestion

Questioning what is an annoyance for me.

Inside of Windows 11, when I go to save a new text document, Notepad automatically throws in a suggested file name to save the file as.

Now I have to take the extra step, time and effort to remove that name, and continue with the name I want.

Is there a way to turn this feature off?

As far as im aware, No. Best way is probably make you're notepad file like you would normally, Upon clicking save as, Just crtl+A then backspace. Its around 2 seconds to do. Its prefilled from the first line or two of the notepad doc. Pain if you aint used to it but im pretty sure this has been a standard fair for years.

Also there must be dozens of free notepad clones for download with various modified features. Maybe one has this behavior as optional. Often these notepad replacements come with a means to replace notepad as the default text editor.

    I purchased this for $109 because it is the only Laptop I have seen with 1920x1080 resolution for the money. OK for streaming, email, etc..

No need to turn it off, and no extra steps needed. Note that in your screenshot the suggested name is highlighted to show it has been selected. Just start typing and you'll replace the selected text with your own.

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

The best of both worlds...I invariably find the suggested name a useful feature.
