Apps Use Rewrite in Notepad app to Enhance Writing with AI in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to use the Rewrite feature in the Notepad app to enhance your writing with AI in Windows 11.

Notepad is a fast and simple text editor that can be used to view, edit, and search through plain text documents instantly.

Starting with Notepad version 11.2410.17.0 in Windows 11, Microsoft is introducing the ability to rewrite content in Notepad with the help of generative AI.

Rewrite (Ctrl+I) in Windows Notepad is a powerful AI feature that helps refine your text with a powerful AI model named GPT. GPT can rephrase sentences, adjust tone, or modify the length of your content based on your preferences. Whether you’re looking to shorten a paragraph, change the tone, or rewrite entire sections, Rewrite empowers you to enhance your writing seamlessly with the help of AI.

To use Rewrite, you need to sign in to Notepad with your Microsoft account. Rewrite is powered by a cloud-based service that requires authentication and authorization. Signing in with your Microsoft account also allows you to access your AI credits, which are required for generating content with GPT.

In the United States, France, UK, Canada, Italy, and Germany, Rewrite in Notepad is available in preview to all Windows 11 users. Users in these regions start with 50 credits.

In Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand, Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers, as well as Copilot Pro subscribers, can use AI credits for rewrite in Notepad. Microsoft 365 Personal and Family Subscribers get 60 AI credits per month, while Copilot Pro Subscribers receive extensive usage of AI features.

Microsoft 365 subscribers can view their remaining credits via the AI Credit Balance button in the profile menu. Notifications are sent when credits are running low (5 credits remaining) and when they are exhausted. Credits for Microsoft 365 subscribers are automatically replenished at the beginning of each month. If you use all your monthly AI credits, you can purchase additional AI credits by subscribing to Copilot Pro.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

Lady Macbeth famous scene rewritten (Bill must be turning in his grave)

Bill's text
Yet here’s a spot.
Out, damned spot out, I say!
One: two: why, then, ’tis time to do’t.
Hell is murky!
Fie, my lord, fie! a soldier, and afeard?
What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account?
Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him.
The thane of Fife had a wife: where is she now?
What, will these hands ne'er be clean?
No more o’that, my lord, no more o’that: you mar all with this starting.
Here’s the smell of the blood still: all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand.
Oh, oh, oh

AI
But here’s a mark.
Out, cursed mark, I command!
One: two: well then, it’s time to act.
The underworld is dark!
Fie, my lord, fie! A soldier, and yet afraid?
Why should we fear who knows it, when no one can hold our power accountable?
Yet who would have imagined the old man had so much blood within him?
The thane of Fife had a wife: where is she now?
What, will these hands never be clean?
No more of that, my lord, no more of that: you ruin everything with this jumping.
There’s still the scent of blood: all the fragrances of Arabia will not make this little hand sweet.
Oh, oh, oh.
