Solved Odd Microsoft Windows Application Compatibility Fix Database

I decided to install an older AMD Adrenalin Edition video driver as it's much smoother and stable. But Windows kept replacing it with well a crappy newer version.

So I thought I would try out the "Device Installation Restrictions" policy.
I went ahead and booted into safe-mode and removed the previous drivers with DDU (network unplugged) and booted back into windows, installed the video drivers that I wanted and headed over to Group Policy Editor.

In Group Policy Editor I went to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions.

In the right pane, "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs" policy I put my decice ID from my video in. PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_15BF&SUBSYS_D0001458 in my case.

Rebooted and all ok. Plugged in LAN again.
Windows no longer tried to force the uggy drivers!

Today I was about to make another backup with Macrium and noticed "Microsoft Windows Application Compatibility Fix Database" under Programs and Features - Uninstall.



I tried Google search but found very little info.

Found this MS link but at the time I am writing this someone allready uninstalled it.

it does NOT showup under Updates History.

Anybody that has a clue on this ?

That's the new hotfix they're rolling to fix specific games breaking after the August 2026 CU was installed.

The inpoutx64.sys driver used by a number of RGB accessories breaks with the new update. MS is pushing a temp fix to check if you have a certain list of matching games, and disabling the driver until everyone sorts out this mess.

Windows 11, version 25H2 known issues and notifications

Resolution: This issue is resolved by a block that prevents the inpoutx64 driver from loading. The block targets devices with this specific driver enabled and the game ARC Raiders installed. This resolution disables the inpoutx64 driver and displays a message window with information about the disablement. Following this message, the game will launch as normal.

We are working to expand the block to devices with the game MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. This issue was resolved by Embark Studios for devices running THE FINALS.

This resolution is propagating automatically to Windows consumer and business devices that are not managed by IT departments, and a device restart is required. Please note that it might take up to 24 hours starting from August 26, 2026, 6 PM PT for this resolution to reach all affected devices. The driver block will also be included in the September 2026 Windows security updates and subsequent releases.

Thank you Garlin, I know about that "inpoutx64.sys" but dont have it on my systems, at least I know the Update is legit now

It's kinda weird they released a whole "app" to fix a driver compatibility issue instead of adding it to the driver blocklist.

I'm guessing MS is leaving the door open so they can easily add other naughty drivers without having to push an Out of Band Monthly Update, every time this type of problem happens again. They can just push a newer app or revise the block list, leaving the Monthly Update untouched.

Yeah with very little info, no signature nothing, thats why I didnt trust it.

I also saw it 2 minutes ago, when I accidentally checked for new apps installed! So it's legit!!! Thanks for the info!
