Office 2024Pro problems

My daughter has used MS office 2024 pro since October 2025. NO problems at all till this morning.

When she went to open documents (Excel or other Office documents) this morning

Using the start menu - none of them would open, and some will not open or are apparently missing.
She checked that office was still activated, and was up to date – this was positive.

She clicked on file explorer, and the recent list of documents appeared.

However, each document would not open, and the icon shown on the left of each document all had an exclamation mark next to it.
Is there a known problem with MS Office recently?

I hope I have given a clear (??) report – trying to speak to her on the phone was difficult

If she hovers her mouse cursor over the exclamation marks, she might get an info balloon explaining what the problem is.

And she can consider an Office Repair.

That was precisely what I was about to ask. If she recently used her Microsoft account to login to Microsoft Office or Windows, she might enabled syncing of the local folders with OneDrive. The exclamation mark might mean that access to OneDrive is not currently available, so she can't open the files until access is established and syncing is completed. I don't know many details as I don't use OneDrive. She might have to disable syncing in OneDrive first.

If that was the case, the originals would all be locally on the machine, and only synced up to OneDrive. Thus, there shouldn't be any problem opening those files.
