OK Co-pilot has appeared but what do I do with it ???

Hi folks
latest update seems to have enabled co=pilot -- but what do I do with it -- seems the only reason it's there is topersuade one into getting co-pilot pro (i.e PAY another wretched subscription). The "freebie" is rather pointless and apparently can only be used 11 times (appropriate for Windows 11 !!) before you have to get the pro version.

For any sort of A.I I'm going to stick with python on Linux (free and python is good for A.I -- easy also for non coders to learn too).

I refuse to be suckered in by any more wretched subscriptions.

There is a good YouTube Video to show how to operantly get rid of Co Pilot. Works well.

Wish Microsoft would stop auto adding these additions.
Third party programs we can install yourselves if required.

Heheh, if you want "ChatGPT" aka LLMs without a subscription, use Llama-models but make sure you have 128-256GB of RAM because some are HUGE and also not so bad. :wink:

But yeah, I have disabled all that mumbo jumbo. It's only in my way, is very slow and provides so much false information that I gave up.

I am unsure about that? Do you mean chats per day? I asked Co-pilot about being "free for 11 uses" and it ignored me and said that

Previously, the free Copilot had a daily limit of 300 chats per day. However, Microsoft has lifted this restriction recently3.
Now you can enjoy more interactions without worrying about hitting a chat limit.

Of course, Copilot could be wrong ... wouldn't be the first time.

I am not seeing restriction for me on co-pilot. I dont have any microsoft sub either. As for what you do with it, you can ask it questions just like you would with google. It is pretty decent at helping writing scripts.

The freebie version doesn't have a use limit. It just has a power and integration limitation...namely it doesn't integrate into the Microsoft Office suite where it's actually useful.

People can stick their heads in the sand and ignore AI, but it's going to be "the thing" for the next handful of years ahead. I know lots of people don't like recurring subscriptions, but it may prove it's value down the road...so I wouldn't just simply write it off and ignore it's power and potential.

The company I work for is putting a ton of resources behind AI. Honestly, I fee that if we don't, we are going to be eaten alive by those who do. We have internal subs for copilot for Github and Office copilot stuff and the reviews have been pretty positive thus far. It's only going to get better with time.

Already have seen people using AI to generate powerpoint slide decks and they cut down the amount of time it would normally cost them to put things together dramatically. That time of time savings is worth $$'s.

I think the 11(or is it 10) times limit is if you use a local account to sign on - so I think it's my error or I misread something -- you can use a Microsoft account sign in though.

I do agree with decent A.I -- it can work really well but needs appropriate hardware (and software) to go with it -- Until I get the latest hardware with those special A.I ("Neural network or whatever they are called" chips) I'll just stick to Python / php / mysql which can generate some pretty good stuff on current hardware.

Good A.I is going to need a really big and not just an incremental leap in computing power and as well as the hardware you are going to need a bigger improvement in the OS -- the current limitation in Windows Pro on the maximum nr of CPU's will be too limiting -- Enterprise and Workstation editions are better for that -- plus I can see a need for really big increases in RAM such as a need for 128 or even 256GB RAM. The Windows OS probably needs to be redsigned a lot to work its way around those increases.

The point is AI is just marketing bollards to say enhanced heuristic leaning algorithms.

It has absolutely nothing to do with Sensient behaviour.

The best a computer can do at the moment is say "I'm pink therefore I am spam".

Maybe just ignore it

It's tucked away in the bottom right hand corner so easy to miss ha ha. Or you can turn it off in taskbar settings so it doesn't appear, if you don't want to fully uninstall it.

Imagine aircraft of whatever size with no Auto pilot etc. The human pilot(s) can't always fix every problem that can occur during a flight - the Auto pilot "learns" on every flight too -- weather is often unique. Mechanical breakdown is rare (fortunately) but can be diagnosed often far more quickly with intelligent onboard diagnostic machinery than with a human pilot. Of course there should be human pilots too --some actions will always require human interaction but I've no problem whatsoever with the autopilot on aircraft.

Plenty of other ways where A.I helps --- have you been yet to some really modern huge automated warehouses == movement of stock, storage, loading, unloading etc is an incredibly complex business -- and in modern cars a lot of the chips in them make servicing quicker and cheaper.

And we've only just started at the beginning of A.I -- don't underestimate it.

It is also becoming increasingly useful in medicine. There are quite a few trials where AI has proved faster and at least as accurate than doctors. I have more faith in medical AI than the new Medical Assistant grades.

My objection is not with advanced computer techniques but with marketing bullshitters totally misusing the term Artificial Intelligence.

AI sounds sexier than heuristic learning algorithms (majority of people would not know what that meant if they tripped over it).

The thing that makes me laugh (a sign of real intelligence) is that the marketing bs redefined the term AI to fit their bs.

The original meaning meant passing the Turing test meant you could not detect responses were different to humans.

There is not a piece of AI that truly meets that criteria although scarily people do get sucked in on dating sites being scammed into thinking they are talking to real people but just need to pay a 'few more credits". Of course, it is not the software that is intelligent, but the human that is thick lol.

I agree -- it's just I have more experience in flying (have a ppl) and engineering than medicine. AI also has allowed robots to perform surgery remotely (with the assistance of a human "operator". This could be a real gain changer in places where hospitals are far away / hard to reach or in places like the UK where the health services nearly always seem to be running in "fire drill mode" at near 100% of capacity.

Any limit on how many questions you can ask only applies if you are not signed in to Copilot with a Microsoft account, and only applies for the current session. If you reach a limit then close Copilot, open it again, and the count is reset to zero.

In the case of Copilot, 'signing in' does not mean you have to sign in to Windows with your MS Account, you can use Copilot with a Local account, as I do. Copilot in Windows is actually an Edge process so you just need your Edge profile to be signed in.

As to what you do with it, that's up to you. For me, mostly I ignore it.

Once in a while I do ask it a question though....

No requirement to 'get Pro', just to sign in.
