One monitor out of 8 has a different Resolution

Win 7
Hello,

I got a brand new Dell Workstation 3660 with following specs.

i-7 12700
2 x NVIDIA T-600 Cards each runs 4 Monitors, so total 8 Monitors
Win-11 Pro
Three M.2 NVMe 512GB where Win-11 is on one of them
Three 4TB SATA 5400 rpm HDD
Eight 24 inch Monitors ( 1920 x 1200 ) Resolution

The strange thing is that one graphics card is installed on a Full length X16 PCIe slot but the second graphics card is installed on an X4 PCIe slot. ( Motherboard has One full length X16 slot & TWO X4 slots. What Dell did is that they installed the second card on an X4 slot with one end open )

Now the problem I have is that one monitor out of 4 on an X4 slot has a different resolution than rest of the 7 monitors.

So the question is :
(1) Is it a defective X4 slot ? ( 3 monitors out of 4 on this slot are working fine at a resolution of 1920x1200 )
(2) Could it be a defective graphics card ?
Or what else could be wrong ?

Thanks

It's one monitor less now that shows wrong resolution?

In which of the GPU ports is the lower res. monitor connected?

Try to swap the monitor in that port with one of the other monitors in different ports.

If the same monitor still can't be configured to have full resolution, then the cable might be a bit bad or just low quality. If the monitor connected to the "non working" port drops to lower resolution, then the issue is the card or the 4x connection...

Perhaps, it's is related to this issue...

Look at the answer from MichaelAtOz. I had the issue with windows bumping to the upper left corner. By deleting those regkeys, Windows re-created them and then thing were fine. Desktop resolution is also stored in these keys. Look at the key structure. I think I renamed the top level to....configurationOLD or something and then restarted to let that key be re-created. Just a thought.

Sean, Respectfully, I have to say that opening multiple threads about this issue is not going to change the advice so many of us have already given you about this problem you have with your Dell. There's just no need for advice that is redundant to what has already been given. To catch everyone up, this thread was about a font issue running 8 monitors

Then you opened this extensive thread about running 12 monitors.

Hopefully, for your sake, someone who was not involved in either of those threads has some magical idea for you, but if Dell couldn't figure out a solution while they were on-site, it's doubtful. You never responded back to the second thread whether or not Dell support ever responded to your last communication with them regarding a replacement or a refund.

Keep writing those letters. I gave you one address but here's another one. Write a snail mail registered letter.

Yes.
In which of the GPU ports is the lower res. monitor connected?
in X4 slot & 2nd port from left.
Right now I am using the same Monitor & Cable with another system & they work fine so Monitor & Cables are ruled out.
Try to swap the monitor in that port with one of the other monitors in different ports.
then the issue is the card or the 4x connection...

Answered above. Yes, may be card but what do you mean by connection ?

glasskuter,

As I wrote before you have been extremely kind enough to help me but as long as the issues exist & Dell can't solve it or replace or refund, I have to eliminate one issue at a time. Microphone issue got resolved last Thursday after 3 weeks & 4 so called Engineers.
Dell subcontracts support to cheaper firm, that firm subcontracts to still cheaper firm & they hire the guy who had never seen more than two monitors, so when they visit me, first thing they want to do is take photo of 12 monitors that I am running so they can go out & boast that they have worked on such a system.

I am constantly in touch with them & as they respond, I try to eliminate that issue & go to another.

rick99 has another idea & the reason for keeping these issues alive

Saturday, Dell escalated these issues to their final level 3 & 3 engineers worked on it on line & could not resolve it but gave a report that they have resolved all issues. I asked to talk to those level 3 engineers & told him that I am an Engineer with Masters ( Not Hardware or software though ) & that shut them up & admitted that there is probably hardware conflict & said that they will communicate it to sales.

So I apologize if I offended you or anyone else. But I am trying to eliminate one issue after another & getting new ides on every post that I made. Not everyone reads my every post like you do.

No, no offense taken and I did not mean to insinuate it as such. As you said, not everyone has followed your issue from the beginning as I have. The only point I was trying to make is lot of ideas and suggestions have been thrown out already and opening another thread will result in a lot of repetitive responses. We truly want to help you.

There's nothing wrong with looking into Rick's suggestion, but it seemed to apply to one is using only one monitor. How it would affect one who is using 8 (or 12) would be questionable since that fix is 12 years old and written for Windows 7, but when one is at the point of drawing at straws as you are, I can understand where you are coming from.

No one knows better than me what you are going through with Dell. It took me 6 months of frustration, many hours of my time, many calls, emails, and service calls before all my problems were resolved. They would manage to fix one problem only to have something else pop up. Eventually, my persistence paid off. You have a lot of $ invested. I truly wish you the same end result.

I believe he means if you swap ports that the troublesome monitor cable is plugged into on the x4 card with another port on the x4 card and the trouble moves to the other monitor but fixes your current monitor, that narrows it down to it being the card or the x4 connector slot the card is using on the motherboard. If you (or the Dell tech) used the process of elimination that was previously suggested in your first thread, you already did this. I never saw an indication whether it was done or not.

Many Thanks for understanding & in last about 17 years or so & 5 of their systems, I never encountered this kind of situation with a brand new & expensive system. I went thru what you went thru with their Optiplex system where they replaced everything.

In current situation I identified many problems as I worked on it in first few days & I did write in my previous post that I gave them 3 choices on 14th day that it is beyond belief that 4 engineers could not fix a single issue & wrote them :
(1) Replace & give me a new one in working condition
(2) Give me a different model with 2 Full length slots
(3) Give me my money back.
Instead they put a new engineer every time I wrote to them.
Now they are Giants of the industry & won't listen to small guys but hopefully my threads will help people what should the be prepared for.

Once again Thank You & please keep helping to everyone with all the knowledge that you are gifted with or have acquired over the years. Most people are grateful whether they say it or not.

I just fixed an issue with my monitor on Windows 11 using this method when I upgraded from 10. Every monitor should have a separate key under the above mentioned key specifying a resolution. Sometimes Windows continues to force a resolution that is listed under this key... instead of updating the key. When you replace monitors, the old keys are not deleted. He can...

1- Rename the Configuration key to ConfigurationOLD.
2- Shut down the PC.
3- Factory reset the monitors using their on-screen menu (or at least the problematic monitor).
4- With the monitors on, turn the PC on.

A new Configuration key will be created with subkeys for each monitor. Perhaps Windows will now set the correct resolution.
