It looks like logging in is a requirement for the NEW Sticky Notes. The following seems to imply that both versions of Sticky Notes will be available at least for now...

I have One Note 2021 but will continue to use the existing Sticky Notes in Windows 11. You can optionally log into the existing Sticky Notes if you want to. I do this with my laptop and desktop to sync the notes between them. Note that both the laptop and desktop use local accounts but Windows and Sticky Notes on both of them is aware of my Microsoft account.

That may work but defeats the purpose of logging in. However, I agree that should be optional like it is with the old Sticky Notes.

Both my laptop and desktop use the old Sticky Notes. I log into my Microsoft Account on each one to sync the notes. Here is a screenshot from the old Sticky Notes showing the option to log into your Microsoft Account

I'm another AkelPad fan.
It was recently updated to version 4.9.9. Do you use the AkelUpdater plugin? That's the easiest way to keep the program and all its plugins up to date.

Yep, i love the new notepad. opens instantly for me on my system. Love having the tabs. Love that it reopens stuff I had open before.

i uninstalled the new notepad and installed notepad classic from winaero but that is not my default text editor
my default text editor is gedit a Linux text editor ported to Windows.

No, I don't use that plugin. but I did the update manually and it was succesfull.
A important improvement is the better recogition of UTF files without BOM.
Because in Dutch many accented characters are used, that was oft represented wrong, but now it is like it should be!
Thanks for pointing at that update!

The Start menu of Open-Shell lets me optionally enable (and customize, optionally also) jumplists that show up in the actual Start menu itself. More importantly on top of that, it has been having rounded corners for the past 15 years so IMO it is safe to say that those who aren't interested in making Windows look like older versions of Windows can finally stop worrying so much about it. :D

1. Take pen out of phone
2. Scratch the note on screen
3. Put pen back
4. Done

Even syncs with OneNote. :-)

That is an option too. And a good one too. Difficult to search though, unless you use text to speech, which also works really great on phones.

I use it mainly for those specific siituations where editing plain text files with Notepad falls short, like:
  • Portable
  • Highly customizable with a fairly wide variety of settings: not only the fonts/colors can be changed
  • Open Previous/Next in current folder
  • Tabify/Untabify/Sort selected lines
  • Change case
  • Add/Remove string to/from start of selected lines
  • Add/Remove last string to/from selected lines
  • Search/Replace with a few extra options: Loop search, Always start new search from the top, Close dialog on Find, Search while typing
  • Direct scrolling (scrolling with the arrow keys)
  • Delete line
  • Copy on select option
  • Window auto width
  • Always on top option
  • Alpha blend support
  • Close on ESC key
  • Word & link (hyperlink/e-mail) detection
  • ...

There's no translation into Dutch language, so the app is not usable for me.
That's because all normal 'production' apps on my PC (and that of my wife) I want to be usable in my native language.
For some of the maintanance apps I make an exception, but the regular ones need to be in Dutch.

But they have translations into other languages.
For those who would like to know which languages, here is a list:
