No, only files. No Folder or directory.
Zip it is the way to go as it becomes a file and keeps its structure.

No, a folder isn't really a file object. Best option is to create an archive (.zip, .7z .rar) and attach that

You cannot add a folder as an attachment; however, you can add a compressed folder containing folders.
