Windows 11 Pro (64-bit) Version 25H2 (26200.6901)
Prior to a couple of days ago, I could quite happily open received PDFs in Outlook.
I now receive the annoying message below:

1725031110169.png

Running Office 2021 v2408 (Build 17928.20114 Click to run) and Acrobat 24.003.20054.

Has either Outlook or Acrobat changed some security setting?

When I've seen a similar message it was because the antivirus/antimalware program couldn't open the file directly to scan but could after saving it to a folder. It's also possible a conflict exists between Microsoft Security/Windows Defender and a third-party installed program.

Many thanks for your suggestion, I am only running Defender and Malwarebytes. I have discovered that if I double click the PDF (in Outlook), I receive the above message. However, If I right click and select open with Acrobat, the PDF opens.
If I try right clicking and select preview, I receive the message that "This file cannot be previewed. Try opening the file in the program in which it was created".
This possibly suggests to me that the problem lies within Outlook.

Possibly. I mostly use Webmail and no issue with the .pdf file attachments.

Thanks for your suggestion: both Acrobat & Office are 64-bit versions, and I do not have Microsoft PowerToys installed.
I have tried a repair install on both Acrobat & Office, to no joy!

Uninstall Adobe, reboot and reinstall.
Many thanks for your advice; uninstalled, rebooted and I had lost the ability to even right click and select open with Acrobat.
I just decided to revert to a previous Macrium back up, and every this is working as it was. For the present time, I will delay updating both Office & Acrobat.

May I thank all of you who have contributed to this thread - as far as I am concerned, this situation is resolved 😊
