Thanks I was deliberating on that one. As it's quite a bit better now, I'll hold fire on that for now but might try it if things get worse again.

The main improvement difference seemed to be doing sfc/scannow and dism tbh. sfc/scannow found and repaired corrupt files (but that's not unusual occasionally IME).

Not sure why people are mentioning stuff that has nothing to do with internet speed /browsing but okay.

Are other devices having the same problem?
Try another browser? Clear your browser cache, try using private mode, is it faster?
When did the problem start? Anything change or added to your network recently?
Have you restarted your modem and router?
ISP having issues?
Is it every site or certain sites?
What does speed test show?

i just answered how to make something work lol. but just use wireshark to check traffic. heres for beginners if needed

As @dacrone mentioned ...if you use the reg patch in the Driver block list tutorial and reboot, the list will be disabled.

Most of the time, if a tutorial has a reg patch option, I use that.
Windows can't argue with a reg patch.

I've been using Fire Fox since 2004 and dabbled with Mozilla earlier than this. My personal experience has been that Fire Fox has been the most stable and reliable and secure over all. Because I play with a number of PCs I also used GOOGLE and GOOGLE Chrome. I dropped my Google browser over a decade ago when they decided to STOP stop being evil. Google's ethics have gone right down the toilet. Since then I've been watching family members constantly struggle with issues generated by Google. Alas, you can lead a horse to water.

VS is an acronym for "Virus Scanner". Not much can slow down a browser quite like a virus scanner apart from malware. Keeping your VS updated is a good practice but it can be annoying if you let it update or run scans automatically. Admittedly, not everyone has the luxury of running their VS manually and I'm not about to tell people to put their VS on pause. If you're feeling real ambitious you could try using Fire Fox on Linux to see if it really is your lap top. TBH I don't think it is. Microsoft has recently been forcing these updates on Fire Fox because of their recent "developments" in the name of AI. For those who think Co Pilot is no longer a thing they need to dig a little deeper.

I couldn't agree more. This is nothing new and this old conflict has been going on for decades. A few days ago I couldn't even sign into Outlook on my Fire Fox browser after updating it. The issue appeared to be solved and now again just yesterday I had new issues signing into Fire Fox. I'm guessing this may have something to do with TPM and security keys. (Something I'm tired of messing with.) For me, it's a good think I'm just not that loyal to MS. After all, they're not really all that loyal to me, the user. When things go bad I can always boot back to Linux where Fire Fox seems to work seamlessly. I've addressed this forum countless times via Fire Fox while on Linux. My general rule of thumb when my browser starts going wonky on Windows is to play Little Bo Peep: Leave them alone and they'll come home... eventually. Meanwhile there's always Linux.

Thanks yes it is somehow related to Windows I think. I have used firefox on linux, but only on low powered machines which isn't a good comparison. It was particularly unpleasant having the issue when only a few months ago I upgraded the ram to 32gb and it was great and very snappy - especially the browser and tab openings. Same ram - but sluggish browser. It is actually alright now. After the bits done earlier. But why isn't it as snappy as when the ram first went in (and I also have 1gb drive space free as well so that's not filling up).

Also is it normal for firefox to be using about 37% of your ram? Seems a lot. Edge does seem slightly faster but I don't want to use it - I'm immediately put off by the amount of steps you have to go through even just to use it, the less intuitive settings, and just all the pestering really.

Browsers can use a lot of RAM. Check all your file extensions. The following link may be of some help:

My experience says that Google Chrome uses too much RAM because if you see Task Manager it opens over 20 instances even when all you have is a single tab. However, nowadays other browsers also do that, even Microsoft Edge and Firefox. The difference is that they are not slowing down the system as much as Google Chrome. This is especially true for older systems with 4GB RAM or less (yes these CAN run Windows 11 as long as their CPU is 64-bit with SSE4.2 instructions). Network traffic in the background is usually slowing down the computer too much. To avoid that make sure you either install all pending Windows updates or pause/disable Windows Update so it won't try to download updates and slow down the system while you are watching a movie online. I would also disable all automatic updaters or configure them to ask before downloading updates. This is also true for Windows Defender or other third-party antivirus. They chose the most inappropriate moment to check for updates, or even worse, scan for malware! Scanning makes a fast system feels like a dinosaur. I always schedule automatic scanning very late in the evening (I leave my computer on at all times), so it won't happen when I want to use it. Even better, disable automatic scanning and do it manually once or twice a week. Real time protection should catch any virus or malware trying to infect your system, you don't have to scan twice a day!

PS: I forgot to mention that enabling Game Mode in Windows 11 Settings avoids background processes and makes your system faster.

The main reason I don't want to use Edge is - the sheer number of settings and privacy settings to go through. It's bad enough having to do that for Windows generally, without having to do it all over again in browser settings.

Fire Fox has a huge number of setting and privacy settings as well. I use it because I'm familiar with it and I like it. Of course, MS wants us to use Edge but the incentive to use it isn't significantly high. Given the shenanigans MS has been engaging in my trust level has diminished greatly. I can use Fire Fox on Linux so that's an additional plus for me as I don't know how much longer I can keep using Windows in good conscience. For me, AI is a very big deal. I want it to remain optional. Again: personal preference prevails.

I have seen where all web browsers and programs/apps may appear slow or have latency problems. I ran these commands a few times correcting that problem. Try running these commands:

Code:

SFC /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If RestoreHealth hangs at 62.3%, do not stop it, let it run to 100%.
Run to check status:
Get-Content C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log -tail 10 -wait

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

If any errors above, run again:
SFC /scannow

Microsoft promised to make Windows 11 a lot faster and reduce AI (make it optional in many cases). This is a bunch of changes with codename K2. We should see it happening in 26H2.

Not sure if the 1GB there was a typo or you think that's plenty, but FireFox needs 5-10GB free disk space for optimal performance:
