Paint Shop Pro 7 - Places Bar Not Showing in Save or Open Dialog Boxes

I love the software Paint Shop Pro 7. I saw other posts about Paint Shop Pro, so I hope some users here have knowledge about it.

In a help file for the program, I noticed that when using the Open or Save dialog, there is supposed to be the Windows Vertical Places Bar (see attached image).

I don't have this and cannot figure out why. I have done the registry fix to add the places (Place0, Place1, Place2....etc) and it still doesn't show.

Although I understand that there are alternate ways to achieve "browsing", as an intellectual exercise, I am really interested in solving this!

Any insight is appreciated!

I use PSP 7.04 and I see no places bar. I just see this...
You can select different views at the top right.





If I click the "Browse" button (lower right), I see this...

I do know that it is feature is intended to be there (shown by the Tutorial File Image Capture). I wonder if it is messed up somehow by running on the newer Windows.

I feel like there must be a registry hack or some other workaround to restore this.

I really look forward to getting this feature back and working.

You could be right.
That pic you posted looks like Windows 7 or earlier?

The 'Save As' and 'Open' dialogs are not part of PSP7, they are provided by explorer.exe and called by PSP. The one on the tutorial looks typical of Windows 7 explorer.

---edit--- My mistake, it's Windows XP's dialog. The give-away clue is 'My Documents' which was renamed just 'Documents' from Win7 onwards.



You can find the W11 explorer equivalent of 'Places' by clicking the down arrow at the right of the 'Save in:' box.

I really want to figure out a way to restore the "Classic" Places Bar...if for no other reason as an intellectual exercise or you could say, "a fun challenge" to solve.

No, I don't need it! But I am now challenged to figure it out.

Did Windows 11 do away with displaying the Places Bar? Everything is there for it to work (I have added the necessary entries in the registry and edited the Group Policy accordingly). I would really like to understand why it doesn't display.
