OS
Windows 11 Pro
I am trying to keep from installing windows 11 on my wife's computer. About the only way I feel comfortable with is pausing the updates for a period of time.
However she is on windows 10 pro and how will that be updated if they are paused.
I don't feel safe messing with editing the settings in the registry.
is there any safe ways to stop her machine from upgrading as it does qualify but still get windows10 updates etc.

Hi Shipinomore10,

There will be a blue banner in the Windows Update page that says Windows 11 is here and you are compatible. You have the blue box option to download and install now.

Or you can press continue on 10, it is an optional upgrade, if not press download, you will keep getting Windows 10 updates until 2025.

Thank you so much Shawnlovehorses. MS says that they will not push 11 onto you and this sure answers my fear. I will remove the pause on both of our machines.

Don't worry shipinomore10, this isn't a forced update since it is a new OS, also a lot of computers who can't' get 11 will also get the option to get the next Windows 10 21H2 - Sunvalley Update.

Though is there something that is making you not want to update her computer?

The only time Windows will try to install the feature updates if when the current on your computer is out of support. :)

Have a good day!

Hi Shawnlovehorses; Age. comfort level with what she has and uses. news about 11 from sources other than forums.
When 11 first came out back in June I did the update to my windows 10 home pro. took some time to complete but I then ran it for about a month. my old HP pavillion AIO 23 is not on the list. Yet when Shawn listed the min. things you needed it meets all. it passes all the tests except for the CPU but has dual cores 3.2 GHz 8gig RAM secure boot tpm 2.0 directX12 large display. 1 terrybyte storage etc. I will attempt to re install 11 on it.

Please don't install this update if your computer is barely meeting the requirements, it would be best to just stay 10 :) It will be minor feature updates or cumulative updates for now, it is best to have a good life :)
