PC Building NOW is Unaffordable.

My smart phone is used for everything. It's actually more of a requirement than a PC in all honesty..

I use it for these things, and other stuff I am sure I am forgetting.

• Duo Mobile prompts at work for all of my 2 factor logins
• My constant glucose monitor and my insulin pump for diabetes
• Monitoring my ring cameras
• Tracking my bike riding trips via Strava
• Handling all of my Venmo and paypay payment methods
• My GPS for my car
• My primary music player for my Amazon Music Library
• my audiobook device, for either library stuff or Kindle.
• My gym membership
• My NFC payment device for most purchases.
• My primary camera as I am not always carrying my DSLR.

Edit.. as i live in sweden i actually do live on another continent of most of you.
Edit2. But yeah i do live in another IT world.. as my life isn't online connected, so i dont have use for smart-devices or the need for outdoor-internet.
My whole online life can be boiled down to six forums, work and studies. i have a really low digital footprint.

And I just discovered that I have a large digital footprint, becuase I just looked at all the website logins in my Dashlane password manager. 168!! OK, a few of them are no longer needed.

I have a bunch of logins in my PW manager that I should purge. Not enough hours in the day...

Have you ever tested to Google your own name and see how much info it is about you online.. or asking the AI to search online about you?

Yes, I have a team that has a choice. . I work for a large fintech company. My team specifically deals with our compute infrastructure (VMware), load balancing, kubernetes, AWS, GCP and Azure.

We are all given a choice as to which we prefer, Windows or MacOS.

when i put my real name into any search engine it comes back blank
and thats the way i will try and keep it.

We are really few that dont have a big digital footprint, as it require us to have been picky about it since we started use the internet.... or for the younger generation where their parents didn't post things about them while growing up.

As a neighbour, living next to you, I'm kinda surprised that you don't use a smart device. Over here it is a requirement, or at least it is really difficult to do anything related to the outside world without one.

If I lived in a cottage in the middle of nowhere and had self sustaining life there, it would be a different story though. Right now it is even difficult to visit the bank without a modern mobile device. Not completely impossible though...

I've digitalized my whole life. It saves space and I have everything with me wherever in the world I go.

In Iceland it's nearly impossible even to pay by physical cash any more even in the remotest part of the country !!! --that said the online / internet services are just superb and very cheap and security problems don't seem to be a significant issue here in spite of by actual discretionary disposable income i.e after paying taxes, energy /utility bills, housing / rent, child care if required, and basic food (and not by some rubbish GDP measure) the nation is one of the wealthiest on the planet -- ignoring those monstrous places like Dubai, Monaco and Saudi-Arabia !!.

@SlicEnDicE - I remember one visit to Finland where I was using a UK vehicle (Right hand drive) with a friends German shepard dog sitting in the front with a seatbelt on !!and I got photographed by a speed camera thing near Tampere --- When the picture came out it showed a DOG sitting in what they assumed was the driver (Left hand drive of course) so photo id doesn't always work as the operators of it assume. - The photo appeared in a local paper !!! although this was quite a few years ago. Also do you still actually have any physical Banks any more -- surely most of those have already disappeared.

had a great time though in Finland -=- really beautiful in loads of places - loved it around Tampere.

I use a dedicated laptop for banking and some medical and government related functions where i have digital ID etc.
A lot of people use the Smartphone for it, but i use a laptop.
My computers can do everything a smartphone can and ten time better and i have at least a 17" screen(laptop), a real keyboard and a real mouse.
My TV is a dumb-TV, but i have since 1996 had a computer hooked up to my TV and home-cinema system, so i have all movies, series and music right there. And i have more disk-space then any smart-tv out there.

I want a phone that can fit in my jeans jacket front pocket... a smartphone is like going back to the mid 90's where i needed a bag to be able to bring my phone. today's smartphone is as big or even bigger then the phones was in 1994. its a freaking brick you carry around.
Sure i like nostalgia and collect OEM computers from the 80's and up.. But I'm not that nostalgic i want to start carrying a bag everyday just to bring my phone. *LOL*

Lets show what i mean.. 1990's VS 2020's
My old nokia from 1995 (i think).... and my Sony Xperia 5 V2 from 2022.

it is the same here.. a lot of stores and places dont take cash... But they do take credit cards, so i dont need a smartphone yet.
