OS
windows 11
After I clicked on "read more" on a Face Book article, the sound stopped working.
I unplugged and re plugged in the headphones and my PC shut down.
Then after several tries to start the PC, I unplugged the headphones again and tried the sound.
It worked for a brief moment and the PC shut down again.
After a restart, I reinstalled the windows media 11.
However, I could not open the app, it stayed grayed out.
I ran a full scan with Malwarebytes and a scan with an free on line ESET scan.
No malware was detected.

Windows 11 is weird. Earlier this year, my main screen would flicker off after I got up from my seat. . . LOL I never found the cause of it. It stopped on its own

One other thing to try:

Just unplugging obviously should not cause a shutdown, but we are still not sure if that is a hardware or software issue.

What happens if you do not even load Windows? Boot into BIOS, a thumb drive, whatever - just don't boot into Windows. Try to plug in / unplug while outside of Windows. If that also causes a shutdown then the problem is 100% not Windows.

Also, when you say "shutdown", is this an orderly shutdown or a hard crash kind of a shutdown? If orderly, I would strongly suggest reviewing event logs to see if a reason for the shutdown is being logged.

The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

Off topic, but that's likely the intentional sensing technology that determines you're no longer in front of the screen.

Sorry, with my dyslexia and no experience at all dealing with soft ware problems, I could not follow all the steps.
