Solved PDF reader

If you do have a need to produce original documents in PDF format there is one option that I did not mention that is considerably cheaper, ( and is not a "rented" option), is Affinity Publisher which is a fraction of the cost of Adobe or Microsoft options and is usually discounted heavily

It's currently shown for sale for under GB £50 but I have seen it for less than half that

I've included a sample trial PDF attachment to show some basic processes used, but has full indexing, and other pro functions

If you're not looking to sign, edit, or create PDF documents, Adobe DC Reader is free.

As I said, like everything else it depends on what your core use is. I use Acrobat because I sometimes need to edit a PDF file or create PDF versions of a document. You can also password protect PDF files. That's me.

That said, even I think the monthly ask price (14.99) for Acrobat DC subscription is a bit much; but again, needs.

Currently, I'm designing everything in PP then exporting it to PDF.
So far, so good.
If I get any busier, I might need something more powerful!

For the record, I'm not here to convince anyone to use Adobe's PDF products. I'm simply here to provide info where I can.

My attitude is use the tools that make "your life" easier, not mine :wink:

I'm pretty green when it comes to Adobe Pro products!
Hell, I haven't even got my sh*t together for some Office products!!! :dizzy:

I've run into somewhat of a hurdle...,
In PowerPoint, I've applied 'Screen Tips' to certain portions of text..., they show on mouse hover in PP and Presentation mode but, when I export the PP to PDF, the Screen Tips don't show on mouse hover!
A bit more specific-
I'm creating a Church Directory, using the aforementioned methods, in PP whereas, when you hover over a members name, the Screen Tip shows their Birthday..., but this doesn't save to the PDF.
Ultimately, I'd also like it if someone opens the PDF on a mobile device, the Screen Tip would show on long press!

I might be biting off more than I can chew, however...,
any thoughts are appreciated.

Is there still a Live mode for the PP you have, where you can create a presentation that will work stand alone without having the full application installed.

I seem to recall it being an option in a Presentation package at one time but can't recall what the package was

I may have found a solution..., here's an example:

As in the screenshot, I originally wanted a user to be able to hover over a name to reveal the birthday/anniversary info in the ScreenTip..., however, the Screen Tip doesn't transfer to the exported PDF.
Furthermore, I doubt a touch device would reveal that Screen Tip on long press, or some other way, anyway! All the other colored links open in the associated app when pressed and show the url or tel: link on hover...
I need users to know that the names are links of some sort...,
So..., long story short, in the rear pages of the directory, I've created birthday calendars so that, when names are clicked, the in-document hyperlink brings them to the appropriate calendar page, without hover info.
Kind of a goofy way of doing it but, I think I can make it work nicely.
I'm still open to suggestions! :wink:

A bit OT, but did you clear with the rest of the congregation about privacy issues? It is always an issue with personal directories, but with churches it is worse. Some may be older people, and lack of privacy can lead to lack of security. You never know who will be reading the directory. May be ask for advice from the local police :scream:

It's not going to be a posted Directory.
And yes, my committee liaison is hammering out the legal issues with the Com of Admin and Church Council.

OK, directories are always tricky, but with a committee looking into it, chances are that it will be done right, with a well-published option to opt out, etc.

We talked briefly about password encrypting the document and making it available to members only from a secure source, etc.
I asked him to look into it and get back to me.
The thing that concerns me is, if people are careless about their app permissions on their phone or device, how much data can certain apps read/harvest!

If it seems too sketchy, our Editor's just gonna print up a good ole fashioned paper booklet! :)
And, what I'm workin on will be the editable template.

That's what I went back to (paper) especially after someone used one of my electronic files, changed my name to his, and took the credit for my work! I still consider myself lucky, because I did not hear about him leaving my name and maliciously introducing errors in the content! Note, that the net amplifies certain things a million times!

Anyway, I don't want to get involved, especially since it appears that the issue is in good hands

Bluebeam is a far superior editing tool. Sort of halfway to CAD level of editing capability. Adobe is so clunky by comparison.

I use XODO Reader from Microsoft store. Works perfect for PDF. I use Sumatra reader for EPUB. or I also use Alfa Ebook Reader Pro which not only reads both but is a sort/organize/ read and visually all my books are placed on screen with different backgrounds and books are on shelves look etc. that ones my favorite but its a paid app. XODO and Sumatra are both 100 percent free. Ive tried tons out there. (MY OPINION) But Adobe ..lol..DO NOT install it. Many reasons why. Very invasive and almost impossible to remove from your computer should you want to. Didnt say impossible just hard too.

Now as far as Editor..Nitro is good, Adobe if you really want it, and Foxit Pdf reader slash Editor is great as well.

Good morning.

There is a pretty big space between the Download link for Acrobat Reader; "Included with your download" that has a link to "Install McAfee Security Scan Plus" that's already checked. If you're not paying attention, you get the Reader and Mcafee!

If you click on the first Download link, you're going to get McAfee; however, if you scroll down a bit to see the whole thing, you can uncheck McAfee, then click the Download Acrobat link.

Also, there's a small app called Unchecky that is programmed to uncheck PUPs. I have it installed on all of my computers and it works pretty much as advertised and is free.
