Pending install occurring whenever I try to install new software

Win 11Pro v25H2 build 26200.7171
Whenever I try to install new software, the installer issues a message that it can't continue because there's another install already taking place. I go into task manager and I see 3 msiexec.exe tasks running, one System owned and two PC owned. The only way I can install new software is I have to 'end task' on those tasks and rerun the software installer. And sometimes this takes two or three attempts before completing.

Any idea why?

Windows 11 Pro v22H2, build 22621.1194 up-to-date on updates.

Press the Windows key + R to start Run, type services.msc, and press Enter or click OK.

Scroll down, find Windows Installer, and double-click on it.

Look at the Service status and if it reads Running, just click the Stop button below.

Then, wait for a few seconds and press the Start button again.

Close the Services window and check if the problem is resolved.

That does not come close to solving the problem, now does it?

@rzn6jw

I know this might sound like a silly question but are set up to single-click or double-click
when selecting an instance?

What do you mean? Sorry - I feel stupid for not understanding! It’s restarting the installer service which has been known to help and years ago (on win7) I had the same issue and this helped.

No need to apologize.

The OP has multiple installers running when he initiates any installation.

What is the cause of this?
Surely the permanent restart of a service will only provide a solution for that instance.
Since this is recurring, it does not get to the root of the problem.
Something else is triggering the multiple instances.

I'm set up for double-clicking on opening things. I also checked services. It IS running at the moment but nothing is being installed. It is set for manual start-up. Its dependencies are DCOM process launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper.

I have mine set to manual as well.
Unsure why.
You should try to install something now.

Did that and same results. Only when I make sure msiexec isn't running is when an install works.

This is not normal behavior.
I would create a new temp user and run a setup executable from that profile and see if miltiple instances run as well.
