I was thinking, just wondered why MS has made Win 11 so hard to customise and personalise. I wonder if its because they don't want things changed while testing is underway, or maybe they don't want any changers to the taskbar as its their baby and the big selling point of 11. The other thing I wonder at is if it is because many people were using incompatible hardware and therefore the results would be a bit meaningless if they sent feedback. Just my thoughts as I have no idea. I am sure that when it is released to the public a lot of customising tools will appear

I suspect that on the 5th of Oct the 'final' version will come out.. one way or another. As for third party personalization tools? Hard to say but I suspect that work is being done on them right now. The only hold up to their release is any last minute changes to 11 that might impact them.

So far there are tools that lets users customize Win 11 so it must not be that hard.

I agree, but the tools at the moment are very limited and some made a while back no longer work on the later versions, one I know of has been withdrawn. Final version, it's probably just the start :lmao:

That was true with every OS version MS has come out with. Win 10 still has issues and it's been out for a while.

Time will tell before we know what third party tools come out. As for me,, I leave the look of an OS the same as it came out of the box.

I see, I never used Win 10 for a good while after it's initial release because I found it graphically Ugly compared to 7. 8 and 8.1 I thought were nothingy ( never could see the point in them ) and I was never an Insider until now as I have more time on my hands. I found the trouble with pre release builds, is we know they will be unstable and are tested by the public, who a lot of just want and early look at a new OS and never send feedback to MS who I believe have few or no testers. Also some of the hardware they use does not meet required standards. Than is why, until now I have avoided pre-release builds. Obviously you have been in the game far longer and me and know what is what. :)

In the end, very little has changed under the hood. The exterior has been cosmetically changed but no real features added. By contrast W8 was a major technical development under the hood, and W10 less so in early days.

In the end W11 is just a lick of paint and furniture moved around a bit, but the basic central heating and power is unchanged.

So if we got lots of bugs (sure there will be some), that wpyld truly sadden me as that would speak volumes for poor development.

Are you sure nothing changed under the hood? Windows has over 60 million lines of code.. something had to be changed.

Maybe MS is aiming W11 at corporations who don't want their employees deviating from the company way of doing things. Another possible reason is to make it work more like a toaster. The fewer things that can be changed, the fewer things that can be screwed up. Just look at all of the self created problems reported on the forums. The user may tweak something, and it could be days or months before something else reacts with the tweak and causes a problem. Then the problem is blamed on Windows, not the tweak.

I like things to be the way I think they should be, so if I don't like the way W11 works, I'll have to decide if I want W11 or something else.

Quite agree, that is why I check out my tweaks to see exactly what they change

Would like a tweak (.reg file) to disable the taskbar thumb previews. Tried the Windows 10 one but it didn't work. :(
Need some way to uncombine them first as they are the only way to get to the window you want if several are open in the same app.
