I will switch to Linux finally Debian and Arch
Hi,

There is Phantom GPU usage and general high CPU and GPU usage on Windows (I can't see which process is making that because it disappears before I get to that)

especially compared to the slim tiny10 used for gaming and Linux

The Power wattage utilization and silence of the system on Linux are significantly better.

The laptop battery is drained very quick on Windows.

What should I do ?

Thank you.

A process that uses overly high resources and disappears from Task list when viewed is quite probably a miner or other malware, the fact that Linux doesn't show the same behaviour really does suggest you have something malicious on your Windows system.
Try to find a self booting virus/ malware scanner so you can check the system without the potential malware detecting a scan and hiding, there are probably some scanners you could use referenced in the tutorials section of this and other forums.

Some alternative suggestions here.

If your computer exhibits 'phantom' GPU/CPU usage, and you are unable to locate the process, then there are three things to try:
1. Check the Power Plan Setting.
2. Perform a Clean Boot to see if the computer's issue is cause by a Startup program.
3. (Temporarily) Switch Off Startup Boost in MS Edge.

See if any of the suggestions make a difference.

It should be something Microsoft put in, if it were a crypto miner I would have noticed more load on the system.

The system is calculating something which seems have been (again) forced by Microsoft without consent of any kind.

So how to log what process is doing that and what dll, what function?

The OS build is "beta" build 23H2.

If you want to nose dive in on the Microsoft shared libraries, then you could try Dependency Walker. Dependency Walker will show which functions are being called by other modules, but it is probably rather static for your requirement. If you had the app source code, you could also use the Visual Studio GPU Usage Tool to dynamically in real-time create a GPU Usage report of activity. But alas, with the GPU Usage Tool, you need the source code to work with.

I had something similar last week. Mouse cursor was sluggy during startup and the counters in Taskmanager go crazy.

Wat helped was restarting Explorer in Taskmanager a few times. Strange ofcourse but everything seems normal now.

After the latest update thats gone.

I have removed some things with NTLite and the system is enjoyable again.

I have also found (With Task Manager) msedge.exe does the GPU usage because it engages vp9 decoding on Intel graphics.

When the video tab is not the current tab, the GPU usage disappears.

So it may be that msedge.exe first engages video decoding even if the video is not on screen, and only later, disengages it when it realizes that the video is not on screen.

A lot of modern UI elements engage the GPU and spike GPU usage, as tracked/shown in Task Manager. But then it subsides when there is no activity.

I didn't have to use advanced debug and tracing yet.

I notice Video drivers are being overstressed by video and other things, from MSedge which can lead to instability and screen flickering, especially when there are multiple video devices in the system (Nvidia 'Optimus' switching)

I have also noticed that Microsoft does not respect this load on the chips whcih leads to overheating and decreased performance.

So what Microsoft can do is improve the schedulers to be aware of these things to keep things nice and fresh.

OK Now the problem is the following:

Viber is preventing the proper StandBy ofthe system and while the system is in some weird non-standby state, it gets hot.

I need to know exactly why, what process is doing exactly what, so I can attack blame and shame the guilty into oblivion.

It's not malware unless you call the OS malware and if the OS is doing it - it is a malware OS.

How to catch the processes that overheat the system during a bugged standby (connected?) standby state?
