Hi folks
HYPER-V is a super efficient VM Hypervisor but for loads of people testing stuff at home it really is quite limiting in a lot of areas. It's fine for businesses / servers etc that don't domuch experimenting and have stable hardware requirements but for Home users the ability to dynamically connect USB and pcie devices surely is of great interest -- you can't always know what devices a VM might need later on.

KVM/QEMU makes this really simple.

I can't believe with the pool of workforce Ms has at its disposal it can't do something similar for HYPER-V.

Cheers

Remote into the virtual machine using RDP and you can share any PnP device in your VM. OFC you have to enable this feature in the VM settings too. Only works for Windows VMs though in Enhanced sessions.

I can’t tell if this is really a plea for Hyper-V (it’s not all caps, btw), or another shameless plug for Linux.

Not true AFAIK -- for example USB disks have to be made off line to Windows Host -- and then you can't detach them from the VM back online to the host again. Same with pcie devices.

Vmware and Vbox are different but they are not type 1 Hypervisors, aren't so efficient and run under the users address space so if the user logs off windows access to the VM is not possible.
