Poll: Is the release of Windows 11 on October 5 too soon?

Been following the development of this thing quite closely and I'm hoping it will be nice OS to have, just as W10 has been for me but not going to upgrade untill December at earliest.

They are rushing to get it out the door, and when the general public starts to get wind of it, and then realizes that they cannot install it the normal, easy way that they've been getting WIndows 10 updates, folks are gonna get demonstably upset. Add to that the fact that there are still way too many issues that have no seeming fix, and the fact that we're talking literally 35 days to release, and I say, yes, it is too early.

Yes, 11 is definitely rushed. RTM was usually released 2-3 months before GA, yet 11 is still in the works.

The whole development of 11 is just too much, they were slowly moving items from the control panel to settings for 5 years and suddenly they had to move the whole lot within a few months along with other things. No wonder, it is a mess. Some bugs and GUI inconsistences could be fixed later, but the huge performance issues (L3, NVMe), that is just wrong (release and fix later?!).

It gives me nothing new that I can see, the kernel changes are welcome, so, for what it is, it's probably ready for it's planned release date. It will also bring Windows systems some healthy publicity for the holiday season - which could be the reason for the release

Same here but at this point I wonder what new features MS can come up with for Windows? And I'm not talking about the collaboration or other touchy feely things.. but things for hard core users.

I don't think that at present there is much need for changes to Windows as it caters for the way that current hardware is used, touch, tablets, desktop and mobile etc etc

As new ways of computing are developed then the needs may well change In my main usage field of Image processing there is a lot of work incorporating AI into the process - maybe this is an area that Microsoft may move into in the future though I can't see any standout uses for this technology, then again I'm not paid the big bucks that Microsoft VP's are on

AI.. yes.. inclusion of that would be great and I sure hope MS starts to do that. I know Adobe has with Photoshop and I love what they're doing. The new Sky Replacement tool is driven by AI and works really well. By adding that they turned a job that was highly tedious to a snap. MS needs to start working with AI..

I'm waiting for the latest ON1 PhotoRAW to drop, they are the latest to add AI sky swaps, they already have it in the current release for various actual processing functions - I've already paid for a copy of the new one that includes a full set of their standalone plugins that work with most, if not all the other major editors their AI noise reduction is almost worth the money on it's own. and they are more adept at more subtle results than the others like Luminar AI

I have to look into that one day. I'm happy with the work Adobe has done in the area of AI so far it's made my life easier.

I have the Adobe Photography plan as everything I process starts In lightroom, with the basic processing and the calaloging, Been that way from the early lightroom days, it then goes into one of the more powerful editors including Photoshop, then round trips into Lightroom for finishing

IMO, whether it's "ready" or not is a personal call. Depending on what a person "needs" out of an OS varies a lot.

This release seems the same as Win 10 was. They release a half baked project, spend 7-8 years using us as guinea pigs, give us one year of well oiled OS, then declare EOL and that Win 12 is just around the corner.

I like the old days, when things weren't released until they... worked completely.

Is Windows 11 ready?

How long does it take to QA a Theme Pack.
I know what Microsoft is doing... not unexpected.

I'll wait until it's polished and needed.

...ok...so 3/5 days on my "Unsupported" laptop I haven't had a single issue. Nothing in Reliability History and only some normal permission warnings in Event logs which has been happening ever since Windows 10 got inventef. I could fix them all but not gonna bother for now because it is very time consuming to track down all the hieroglyphic IDs.

...so yeah, Windows 11 is ready for prime time at least on my unsupported laptop.

I just wonder why the OEMs are not being enthusiastic with including the TPM support in the Specifications published in major companies' online offerings, seems they should be eager to get those of us with older computers updated [read that as make more money].

I'm not sure that the TPM is the main issue preventing possible uptake of Windows 11, the PTT and ftpm has been a standard inclusion for some time - I've seen mention of it going back to 2013. The processor cutoff however is more of a problem as not only does it encompass the acceptable chips being a lot more modern in design but being a more major item to upgrade to the required standard, often needing Motherboard replacement in addition to the processor.

There is no simple upgrade a like the one with the TPM via a standard (ish) module into a pre-existing Header, when looking at processor upgrade

I voted yes. I was "underwhelmed" the first time I started Win 11 as it just appears to be Win 10 2.0. Which may be a good thing.
With the release we will find out what the actual requirements are.

It's a close call on the vote, I see. I've had few problems with the release, but as @geneo indicated, if that's it for a year it could be a little too early.

I expect there will be a lot of fixes and changes after the initial release.

With Windows 11 being released on 5-Oct, I wonder whether the free upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 will still be available?
(there will be people who haven't gone up to Win 10 yet).

Without even a pre-beta of Android apps support which was promised at announce of Windows 11, it looks incomplete and release is premature. Maybe a month or something so would be enough, so release near the end of the year would be more reasonable. And even I didn't mention the ironing out many problems with PCs on the border of system requirements.
