I love it and am using it without Open-Shell. It seems faster than 10 but it will take time to adjust to the new Design, especially since I used Classic and Open Shell from the start of Windows 10.

Sure StartIsBack will be updated for 11 support. It's $3.99, but very customizable

So far the Start menu, taskbar (lack of settings) needs to go. I have always put my recycle bin on the task bar. They have also added to many clicks to connect to WiFi.

Open Shell works just fine. Always left aligned of course but if you want you can left align the W11 start menu and then the W11 start button is hidden as in W10.

Overall my impression is very positive. It does feel unfinished - for example, File Explorer suddenly switched to the old ribbon interface and I don't know why (I hate that ribbon). Some things are now slightly different, for example all usual OS tools are grouped into one folder which does not seem to respect the dark scheme

Screenshot 2021-07-02 121915.png

Other than that - I could not care less where the start menu is or where the taskbar is. There are other cosmetic changes I see people are getting emotional about, I don't know why would that matter. For now the system looks faster than 10, but I haven't finished setting it up and haven't transferred any large files (my way of deciding the "speed" of the OS). The system seems to occupy more drive space that 10, but again, I'm not short of that, the prices for SSDs are not too high (at least for 250-500 GB ones that I would use for the OS drives).

My only problem is the tendency to replace the "desktop" look, feel, and programs with the "tablet/phone" look, feel, and apps, but that seems to be the general theme that is not specific to any particular Windows edition.

I agree and I was having problems with two internet connections to my router, One was supposed to be for WI-FI but my PC does not have the antennae. I will have to purchase one but there is no rush. Overall I feel it is faster than Win 10 was but it installed to 36 Gb's and that was after removing the old.computer folder. I was able to get it down to 29GB's. It does seem to be more for a Tablet. I liked the old ribbon and wondered why it was still there. Being the first release, there is bound to be issues.

the main problem with Microsoft they get conflicting advice from the public made worse by poor feedback and with their main team not belonging to any type of computer forum and end up going round in a loop going nowhere. I had to correct windows vista back in 2008 over what I believed to be the root cause of that OS failure and that was the lack of ram. Those like myself who had 6GB and higher from the off and a i7 chip seemed to get by ok. In our yearly MVP conference, I had to demonstrate the failure of what was going wrong in which the ram was low and because I’d been in computer forums for 8 years at that time knew how the public, in general, do things’ which was to download bloated software like I tunes, etc which had come out and were extremely popular only then to run out of ram so when the computer rebooted it didn’t come back up.

You need to build an OS from a small group of people who understand what the public could find useful. SHAWN and certain other members, for example, have a solid insight into what the public finds useful he also knows about everything to do with the OS so would be obvious to me to make him part of that inner team in the development of windows. I often have to reach out to the main developing team but as always never get a reply back. So, there you have it pure and simple lack of communication

You can never please everyone and MS has to make compromises. At this stage I think they've made up their minds as to what they want it to do and how it will look/feel. I don't see major changes coming for any of that. I don't have any issues with their decisions so far and I'll adjust to the new OS.

Many just don't like it and I understand that while others just don't like change. To me change is a good thing and to be embraced. But YMMV

Hi guys, I am not insider but so far, whatever I see as screenshots, Windows 11 interface looks pretty. Too early for me to say if I would like it or not. My laptop meets all requirements from MS except the CPU - hope that they will lower it to 7th Generation of Intel. Overall I don't like all of this commercial side of presenting a new OS /although W10 supposed to be the last OS/.
By the way, does the Control Panel still exist in W11?

Thanks @BunnyJ, if I understand correctly, many items from Control Panel are migrating in W10, so MS has another 4 years to deprecate it and then stop supporting the OS. Meanwhile W11 comes with a good-looking and refreshed Control Panel... What is that suppose to mean?

That was the plan and I thought they would have done that in 11.. but we'll see when they integrate that into settings.

They better not remove the Control Panel. I've used that since Windows X
For me also, I prefer to stay there. Seems like the chaos in some MS heads is taking over...

They seem to be trying to transition to a different set of menus, which would be "tablet/phone" friendly. Honestly, I don't understand the need to have the exact same OS for tablets and desktops. Apple for example doesn't do it this way - they have MacOS and iOS. On a tablet it's natural that all menus and settings and configurations are somewhat limited. On desktops we are used to a wide range of customization. Moreover, there is much wider range of devices and configurations, and hence the need for a larger set of settings. For now this transitional menu scheme ends up calling some ancient menu applet which looks the same as 20 years ago and does not fit any new design.

As with just about any app, you can also type "control" in the start menu search to find it.

Some items in the CP icon view are now opening the corresponding item in Windows Settings directly.

I keep it as a desktop icon. (Available under "personalization".) Been doing it that way for years. Others are free to choose otherwise.
