Poll: Windows 11 - Love it or Hate It?

Can't see at present that i would ever put it on my main system.

2d and 3d benchmark tests give no real significant improvements, some areas Win 10 faster others 11 is faster but not by any significant amount.

Looks to much to me like they want to go back to Windows 8 looks. I liked 10 because it was clean, simple UI, yes some things i did not like but overall 10 looks better.

Not being able to move the taskbar to top or sides is a big reason i wont use it. I prefer the option to do so. Seems yet again control over the UI is being limited and i can see the reason why. My Desktop PC is for productivity, if i want Android or Apple apps on it i will use my phone. Win 11 seems to want to appeal to tablet users more than traditional desktop users.

So i will wait and see but at the moment MS is looking and acting more and more like Apple everyday, that for me is not good and the reason i left Apple some years ago for desktop computing.

Haven't voted yet.
But I always like to grab a new thing, learn as much from it as possible. In my daily life friends and relatives use to come to me for Windows stuffs. It"s uneasy being seen as a helpful person. Advised them to find solution in any helpful Windows forum but most of them won't take it based on very simple reason, the know less English than me!
I'm working on how to have an opportunity doing things with this Windows 11 soon enough. Gave my latest desktop machine to my son. And I"m left with 10 year-old-Intel desktop and a MacBook. Tried some workaround with no avail.

So, no love and hate yet. :giggle:

Love it enough so that I have been booting into it daily and using it as I would any other version of Windows. Looks quite nice, performs well and does not have too many distracting bugs at the moment. Looking forward to test out the new features that are not yet included in this release but should be coming fairly soon.

Definitely a Keeper -- BUT PLEASE MS FIX FILE EXPLORER. It;s bonkers you have to often go to "More options" when messing around with files in File explorer. For example I often use 7-zip to compress and decompress files - directories etc . The old way you'd just right mouse click and you'd see the 7-zip option in the context menu. I know sometimes cut / paste / delete appear in little icons above the initial panel but usually I end up having to choose "More Options".

Has anybody found a registry hack or otherwise to revert file explorer to behave like it did in W10.

Office 2019 gave "License nag" even with legit license but temporary fix here works to solve that problem :

Command prompt
Run as administrator
cd "\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun"
Enter
OfficeC2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.13801.20266
Enter

You then get the box Office is downloading updates
Close command prompt

Then in Office 2019 - any app EXCEL / OUTLOOK or whatever - just "Disable updates". You are left with a relatively recent version so it's probably OK for 99.99% of people -- this should work until Ms fix their activation servers properly.

Cheers

Hi there
Thanks

That did the trick --I used the 2nd option - I don't like mucking about with the registry unless it's 100% requred. Changing the options as per option 2 (launch in separate process) worked brilliantly. So much better than that rediculous new thing.

Also get a load of decent extra options say when right clicking agains an image file for example

Much appreciated as this was my biggest bugbear so far with W11 !!!!

Launching windows in separate processes simply reverts the explorer to the Windows 10 look. Personally I don't like that. Moreover, I doubt that they will keep the Windows 10 explorer there forever, most probably they realize that the Windows 11 explorer is still half baked so they put Windows 10 one in there to fall back to.

Hi there
people will always prefer different ways / options of doing things. My main gripe was that I'd need two mouse or keyboard actions to accomplish the same task I could do with one. It might not seem much but over say a week you might be amazed at the amount of extra time etc this would take especially if reseraching articles and submitting for publication where speed is of the essence.

My gripe was not the actual look per se -- I think we can all agree that the basic GUI view of File explorer looks definitely very old fashioned but needing an extra action to get to an essentially useful context menu (to which you can add your own applications BTW) was in my view a decision Ms made that definitely belongs in the ream of total Bovine Scatology.

Cheers

I have a bug that explorer.exe keeps restarting continiously so rollback to Win10.
İf anyone experiencing same issue here's a quick workaround I borrowed from someone else on the internet that worked : go to Device Manager -> Batteries -> right click on "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" -> click Disable.
The battery tray icon will disappear and explorer will no londer enter the crash loop :)

I know I don't have a TPM, I do have the ram and storage amount. CPU is 3.6 GHz.

I don't have a productivity issue, and I am a retiree. I am astounded that MS seems to like pushing people away from using Windows.

Apparently I retired in time, to avoid my computer users freaking out over Win 11. Most of them hated any kind of change.

I cannot confidently give a real opinion yet, but from what I have seen, it seems nice. The new File Explorer context menu works for me. You still have the cut, copy, paste options right at the top as icons, or in some cases, at the bottom. It isnt often that I have to compress or extract an archive, but when I do, I don't mind the extra click to have a menu that is more compact for the more common operations.

Windows settings seems to be a bit of a mishmash -- we need the HOME menu -- I get this when I start settings from the menu
set.png
You can get other things like "Insider " or whatever but you have to enter the name from the search in the Windows Menu . IMO the windows settings is mega hosed up. Not a show stopper though. Seems like Ms forgot their own developers guidlines -- with any sort of GUI or website design ensure Navigation works properly forward and back and have a way back to HOME or start process !!! -- "Design 101" I would have thought.

Hating it more with the right-click menus in Explorer, turning into a click-fest, and menu chasing. 7-zip now needs to be set as " always use this app..." The response to click and double click everywhere is flaky, sometimes need to resort to tab and arrow keys to escape from screens where the mouse response fails. Not loving this.

I noticed that and thought it was because of my file manager Xplorer^2, but finally saw it happening in regular Windows Explorer as well, which I almost never use.

That, in and of itself, it probably the most irritating part of Win11.

Incidentally, though, I have 0 issues with mouse clicks and movement in games.....

Hello everyone

I'm a new poster so please don't bite me. I have read through the forum and am unsure where best to post this so here seems like a good place.

I have a three month old laptop with good spec's so decided to give Win11 a go through the insider channel. I was a bit dubious having read through this forum but I have to say that my experience has been great. The installation took about 20 minutes and was pain free.

The first thing that I did was to move the start button over to the left hand side then get rid of all of of the crap which appears when you click on start (right click/delete, right click delete, right click/delete, right click/delete etc etc)

I then pinned what I actually wanted to the start menu (command prompt, run, control panel, file explorer, paint, snipping tool - I'm old skool..) and have ran with that. It has all worked perfectly.

When it comes to browsers I have always used Firefox and and for me it has worked seamlessly with Win11, no problem at all.

I then loaded up a couple of games and again, everything has worked perfectly.

I'm trying to find something that I don't like about this OS and am struggling. I guess that I miss the live tiles but that's purely cosmetic.

What I do like is how snappy Win11 is compared to 10. It seems less bloated, more agile. There is nothing that I could do in Win10 that I can't do in 11 and in my eyes for a DEV version (22000.65) it is very impressive. I won't be rushing back to Win10.
