Possible HD failure

Windows 11
I installed a new 1 GB SSD in an HP laptop ;ess than three months ago. A couple of times recently Windows 11 has crashed with a BSOD, and when I restarted the laptop would not boot up, giving me a boot device not found error message, and refused to boot. Several attempts resulted in no luck. I finally went into the BIOS, opened the boot manager, changed the UEFI boot device to an external device then changed it back to the hard drive without actually saving in between, exited the BIOS and rebooted and the machine rebooted, albeit very slowly with a long hiccup after the logon screen appeared and I entered the PIN.

This has happened a couple of times.

Is this a drive failure problem or something else?

You might get better help if you post this in the BSOD section where there are some users dedicated to helping with this kind of stuff.

It does sound like the ssd. I would do a surface scan to check for errors.
I wonder if the bios allows the ssd you have fitted?

It could the SSD, but it could be something else entirely. @Archigos' advice is sound - let the BSOD analysis team take a look since you are experiencing BSODs, they can help ascertain where the root cause actually lies.

The drive is being replaced under warranty.

Which test was required or used to confirm the drive problem(s) for warranty replacement?

The HP Hard Disk Test would not run. The computer does not have Optane Memory. I did not go any further with the additional tests because the dealer who sold the computer is sending me a replacement drive so I can clone the bad one while the computer is running, replace the drive, then ship him the bad one. This was a reconditioned laptop with a brand new SSD he installed- it's less than 2 months old.

There's a very good chance that cloning the boot drive would copy the bad sectors.
Clean install is the way to go

Possibly. I just have to take the chance. The bad one has been running fine for almost 3 days now, with a number of restarts. Actually, it's been running faster with fewer problems than before. I ran chkdsk and other tests on it since then, no problems found. Hopefully the clone will be OK- it's far less than time consuming than reinstalling all my software from a clean install. I can't lose any data- that's all on a NAS drive, so anything on the SSD can be reinstalled with no permanent loss.

That's a good idea. I have Minitool's Partition Wizard (the full version, not the free one) which will do the same thing. I will probably make an image onto one of my NAS drives as well as cloning (Partition Wizard will do both). Thanks.
