Power Options Keeps Changing

This issue has persisted for at least a year through multiple updates, so I don't think it's a Windows build issue.

My Ryzen 5 system (not sure if Ryzen is the issue but I've never had this problem on an Intel system) keeps changing the Balanced power option. This is a self built desktop and the computer is supposed to be put to sleep after an hour of inactivity however it constantly changes from 1 hour to Never. Sometimes it within a couple of hours, sometimes it takes a day or two. I've tried disabling allowing the mouse and network from waking the computer thinking it's picking up a vibration or a signal but that doesn't stop it. I've run virus scanners and root scanners and nothing has been found. I've tried running the Power Troubleshooter and that did nothing. I've run sfc to no avail. Basically, everything I've found as possible fixes online I've tried and nothing works. Short of doing a fresh re-install, is there any way to fix this problem? It's very frustrating. Thanks.

Thanks, but I've done that too. Didn't stick.

I've checked services but didn't see anything out of the ordinary but will look again.

Is there a log somewhere I can search to see what is changing the plan?

You should disable startup programs and check scheduled tasks using AutoRuns.
In this video, i will show you how to use a powerful application like Autoruns to manage your Windows start up programs, processes and other entries.

There have been similar threads on the past and the cause has often turned out to be a helpful utility installed by the user.
Which helpful utilities have you installed?
Can you disable each on in turn to try to identify which is the culprit?
I'd guess it's something that offers to manage Windows for you but does not make clear that it manages Power options as part of that job.
I'd guess it's something that you installed over a year ago so Control panel, Programs & features would help with searching since it can be sorted into date order.

Best of luck,
Denis

For me, the issue was the ASUS AI Suite 3 software.

I uninstalled all ASUS software and then eventually, I reinstalled AI Suite 3. That solved my power profile switching issues.

I normally use the AMD Ryzen High Performance profile which is installed when you have an AMD graphics card and you install the Adrenalin software/drivers. I think these profiles are also installed when you install the AMD chipset drivers as well.

In your case you would want to use the AMD Ryzen balanced power profile.

I manually removed the AMD power profile through command line, but when looking at the AMD chipset drivers in Programs and Files it was still showing installed. I've now removed that and will see what happens. Fingers crossed.
