Yesterday I restored OS partition with Hasleo backup files (the full and a differential), having booted with Hasleo rescue media in USB stick. All good. The backup type was the file type.

By the way, Hasleo formats the USB stick. Macrium (at least in current ver 8) instead adds a partition of minimal size.

Not true - depends on how usb drive is initially formatted if creating a Macroun Reflect usb drive. Of course, you can resize partitions afterwards as well depending on what 3rd party tools you use.

Hyper-V (a vm runs almost as fast as my older laptop)
usb "drive" need not be preformatted. Macrium creates a FAT32 partition in it. If usb "drive" is preformatted, that means one partition occupying all of the drive, leaving no room for Macrium partition; Macrium prompts to reformat. If usb drive contains one or more partitions that do not occupy all space, then Macrium adds a FAT32 partition after them.

Test a USB. Format the USB to NTFS, then create a Macrium restore USB on it.
Not sure why you’re arguing about the format of a Macrium rescue partition with somebody that spends time extensively testing these backup programs. How did we get on to Macrium anyway?

For Multi-Boot (MBR/UEFI) rescue media the suitable partition is determined in the following sequence:
The current 'Active' partition is checked for suitability.
If not found, the first suitable FAT32 partition is used. This partition is then marked 'Active'

Last week I needed/attempted a restore and was disappointed. I was able to successfully boot into my Hasleo Emergency disk and access the system image. I was hopeful when restore completed and all partitions looked correct. However, I was unable to boot into Windows at the restart, and Windows RE startup repair failed. I tried again and same result. Fortunately, I had an older image created in Windows and it was successful. I was tempted to try the MBR Repair Tool from my Emergency Disk but wasn't clear if this is for GPT...or just MBR. Thoughts.?..I had success with Hasleo in the past but this was first restore with v4 and leaves me with some reservations.

This is what happened to me with AOMEI. I hope it doesn't happen with Hasleo, I am yet to test it.
As you mention, maybe it has something to do with the creation of the boot media (GPT/UEFI/MBR?)
I also have a Windows backup image (win 7 backup & restore) so I am confident I can backtrack.

Just sharing my experience... I've done over 200 full and delta restores on various laptops with HDD or SSD, using both stable and beta versions of Hasleo, and I've experienced no issues or failures.
