Hoping that Microsoft will notice that WMR software is installed on device and give those users fair warning that updating to 24H2 will make their devices destined for the landfill.
If Microsoft are unlikely to give users of WMR devices advanced notice that certain updates will remove all WMR functionality, does anyone know roughly when 24H2 will be arriving? And will users need to do anything specific to ensure they aren't surprised with a 24H2/WMR killing update?

Hoping someone here knows and appreciate any responses.

I'll be efforting to turn off and disable updates from the day before onward.... hopefully that'll help.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

You can stop WU from automatically updating you to 24h2(or whatever MS ends up calling it) using this tutorial. NOTE: This tutorial was written for an older version upgrade. If you use either GPO or registry method, you will have to change the targetreleaseversion to be 23H2 to remain on 23H2.

Unfortunately, the tutorial you referenced contains the crunch proviso (right at the very end, of course), that the method outlined does not work on the Win11 Home version.

Winuser on the earlier thread about 24H2 revocation rescue boot results seems to imply that he had to redo the Macrium USB recovery boot write after revocation installation, although whether this was with Secure Boot on or off remains unknown.

Yes that is correct. I apologize that I failed to specify that without asking if the OP ran Pro or Home. Having Home has quite a few caveats and that is one of them.

Just to clarify for anyone who reads this, there is no correlation between your two questions. Stopping a release version of the OS from applying and ramifications of the secure boot revocations MS will be automatically applying this year are two different things.
This article from Macrium explains the solution for creating new recovery media that will work in secure boot systems AFTER the revocations are applied. I believe this applies to recovery media created in Macrium 8.1.7544 or later. That Macrium page is very misleading to the reader IMO. There are references to Macrium 8.0 articles which was the free version of Macrium listed on the same page. AFIK,This new WINPE rescue media can not be created using the old Macrium Free .

Just been looking at this and having had a few problems in windows 11 23H2 and seeing yet more problems with the nest 'improvement'?, I have just turned off my updates. Hope that's right.

I did try to reply to one of the answers, but was moved to something called 'X' to join. Can someone tell me what that is. I dont want to get into things I dont understand.

I have another question, but being new, should I start a fresh question - its relating to windows 11 and Office??

"X" as in the former Twitter "X"?

It's best to begin a new thread for fresh questions that might be unrelated to this thread.

Thank you for your reply. I agree that there so many caveats that picking through them needs some industriousness.

Your comment:

Stopping a release version of the OS from applying and ramifications of the secure boot revocations MS will be automatically applying this year are two different things.

Perhaps, but separated only by a relatively short time period, it seems. Macrium Reflect misled, or perhaps was very confused, by not being clear on which version of its' programme was being referred to. For the time being, one can refuse to apply these revocations and keep Secure Boot off. In 6 months, will this still be so ? Given the confusion around Macrium's flawed advice, it's doubtful anyone outside MS knows the answer for certain.

This has the classic hallmarks of a potentially big mess.

I didn't test the old Macrium rescue disk to see if it worked or not. I decided that because I hadn't updated the rescue diskin awhile it was time to do so. When I clicked on the option to make a rescue disk a window in Macrium showed that there was a new version of WinPE so my rescue disk did need to be updated.
