And by the way, how (where (obviously not the File Menu), under which menu??) can I find the current version number of Outlook? (out*, the version number could always be found in the 'About' menu entry)

Since Outlook issued the complaint, how/where might I implement access to (maybe) Version 2312 Build 16.0.17126.20133) 64 bit?

The "What's New" section is especially informative. I'm begining to understand why every program in the 365 Suite becomes less and less familiar and understandable (and though this is very counterproductive this is not unique to MS365--check out Spotify, most financial institution websites...places important not to be confused by).

Agreed, a tree is not stable enough. The antenna for my 25Mbs Wireless DSL looks like a small dish and is mounted on the end of my house aimed at the antenna farm about 2 miles away. It has a radio device on it connected to the PoE Modem in my computer room by Ethernet cable. My Wireless Router Uplink port is connected to the Modem. Computers connect to the Internet through the Router, also to a NAS drive and 2 printers.

BTW (I may have asked this before...) After the disk has been reformatted tomorrow, will I be able to successfully install the 2010 version of MSOffice Suite (and will it be able to read current Outlook, Word, and Excel files ?) Thanks

my main platform is Windows 7. this year I am planning to move onto Windows 11. hopefully, not too many issues on Windows 11.

Should be able to continue using existing files. Office 2007 through the current use the same file formats, Office 2003, XP/2002 and 2000 need a compatible pack/file conversion installed to read those newer formats. Office 2010 was the first to offer x86/32-bit or x64/64-bit installs and the Product Key may not interchange between the two.

I've run Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation on Windows 7, 8, 8.5, 10, and currently on Windows 11 Pro. It runs problem free. All of your customization is saved on IB servers, so when you upgrade to W11, IB TW will install and run just like it did on 7.

Windows 11 upgrades many security setup. hence I could see issues by the new Windows 11 security features. such as my python, excel macro cannot automatically run on Windows 11 any more. Also my TOS cannot automatically start any more. (blocked by pop-up windows)

When manually, looks ok.

try to see if other users meet any problems.

Yes, Office 2010 applications can open files created in Office 365. This is because Office 365 is backwards compatible with Office 201012

Office 365 and Office 2010 are not fully compatible1234. Office 2010 is no longer part of mainstream support and may not work on Windows 1014. Office 2010 may work with Office 365 with reduced functionality, but it is not recommended23. If the Office 365 subscription includes Office 2016, it is suggested to download and install Office 2016 for better experience3. Office 2016 has the same version as Office 365, which is 16.0, while Office 2010 has a version of 14.04.

MSFT Office is just a marketing issue. new version NOT much change except GUI.

my excel macro can run on Office97 on Windows 7. It's faster than Office2010/365 on newer PC. a reason I still keep it.
excel macro on Office365 runs slower than Office2010. querying data, charting, , , maybe because of cloud reason, maybe due to GUI reason, , ,

I'm a Microsoft 365 subscriber. I have a choice of using the slow free 365 cloud-based Office or the fast installed app 365 Office. I use the installed Office apps. You're right, the cloud-based Office runs in a browser and is pitifully slow. I would never use cloud-based Office 365 running on a browser either.

I am marking this thread as "solved". It's gone on a long time--I appreciate everyone's input--and, though I can't definitively state that every step leading toward imaging the drive was satisfactorily answered, I can admit a lot of important stuff was covered, hopefully enough that this thread can be called upon in the future by folk intent on getting to a place where they can get past the mess they started out with (in my case due to OneDrive).
Don't be mistaken. In the hands of a better person than I the information provided in this thread should be able to give an informed user a way of establishing a user-profile (NOT Microsoft (Account)-based) based profile--a profile that doesn't need to engage in OneDrive and MS Office365 vagaries--maybe an operating environment in which a user can hopefully operate without constant Microsoft interference and intervention.

Today, after 3 hours of work, a local consultant was able to switch 4 Microsoft accounts by doing a clean install using a local account; was able to allow 3 of them to talk to each other over a local network; and was able to tie in a printer to that network.

What I've been left with are 4 computers, each with two administrators, one a Microsoft account; one a local account. Though I didn't expect this, I'm now finding it essential for two reasons:
1) files may need to be transferred from the former account to the new (local) account.
2) Though I expect the Microsoft account to eventually fade away, right now it is the only way I can do certain things, like establish email communications through the outlook account I was using.
3) It might provide an avenue where I can access/use programs I'm not sure I ever want to use again, to wit: the complete MS 365 Office suite, but I'll see.

Anyway, what I really want to be doing is composing microtonal music--that's what the dedicated DAW computer that I've not been able to get to for months is supposed to be doing. But before the music and before imaging my computers and establishing backup schedules to maintain those machines, I need to get my local account to access and send email, (and I suspect more). So I'm starting a new thread devoted to practical steps I need to take immediately before imaging and backing up those computers. The new thread will be called "Consolidating my local and Microsoft accounts".
