On September 20, 2022, while running Build (21H2) 22000.978 I checked and received notification that an update was available. I proceeded with the update to version 22000.1042. Since this is supposed to be a phased distribution to 22H2, I wasn’t unduly concerned about not receiving it yet although Build 22000.1042 was showing as a Preview.
While in class last Thursday I checked a students’ computer to see what version his update was. He also has version 22000.1042. Upon further investigation I discovered he also has a preview version.
I arrived at this conclusion by the following method.
Open settings > Windows Update > Update History and click on the > (Figure 1).

Figure 1
The Windows Update – Windows Update History window appears (Figure 2) with the five latest updates, including two 2022-09 Cumulative Updates for Windows 11 x64.

Figure 2
The third Cumulative Update in the list is (KB5017328) successfully installed on 9/13/22. Clicking on “Learn More”, I find that Build 22000.978 shows not to be a Preview

Figure 3
The first Cumulative Update in the list is (KB5017383) successfully installed on 9/20/22. Clicking on “Learn More”, I find that Build 22000.1042 shows to be a Preview.

Figure 4
And . . . upon further review, I find that every other update (this update marked preview, that update not marked preview, etc. in July and August are marked PREVIEW!
I’m tapped out and totally confused! Can anyone explain to me why I’m getting both Previews and not Previews? And, are any of y’all getting the same as I am?
