Problem with Real Tek

DEll XPS 8950 / Win 11 (latest)

The Line in on the RealTech sound card has stopped working. Is it best to reinstall the sound card? What are the steps to do this?...Thanks!

You can attempt to install the latest driver but if all other functions of your sound work there is a possibility the line in jack has gone bad.

To get the single driver go here, select "find drivers". Select Windows 11 as OS and expand the category to "audio" The latest audio driver is dated June 2023. Download the driver package and install it. https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/xps-8950-desktop/drivers

There are a number of recent driver updates including bios for that device.. What I would do is let Dell automatically update your drivers. See if you have an app on your device named "Dell Update" If you do open it and run it. If you don't you can find it on that same page under category of "application". Download it , install it, and run it. It will update all your drivers.

If you don't have any luck here, head on over to the Windows 10 Forums. There is a dedicated Sound & Audio section there with plenty of info about Realtek and good support.

Seems like the Line-in is "out."....I plugged in the audio from my phone and got nothing...same with my portable CD player. So Dell is replacing the motherboard. Seems like it is wedded to the Sound Card! Not so smart...will cost them a bunch and me...just the hassle of reconnecting everything!

The rear panel I/o jacks are part of the motherboard on all desktop motherboards, not just Dell.
