I am struggling with Windows 11's handling of multiple displays....
I have three displays:
A: AOC 2560x1440 monitor connected via Displayport - this is configured as the Primary display
B: AOC 2560x1440 monitor connected via Displayport
C: Hisense HD TV, connected with HDMI via a Sony STR-DN1030 AV receiver. The TV and receiver are not powered on all of the time.
I have these displays configured as follows in System...Display:
C=3 (left), B=2 (centre), A=1 (right).
The above configuration works until I turn off Display C (the TV). When turned off, the other two displays switch places as follows:
A=1 (left), B=2 (centre), C=3 (right)
...so the monitors switch from a 3-2-1 setup (left to right) to a 1-2-3 setup. This is very confusing, as I then need to start dragging my mouse in a counter-intuitive direction to move from B to A. B is physically to the left of A, but I need to drag the mouse from right to left to get from B to A.
If I turn on the TV (C) things go back to normal.
I also find that when I turn off the TV (C) some of the items that I have on the desktop of B move to A:
- Rainmeter widgets
- App windows
This behaviour seems to be random - sometimes all of them move to display A, sometimes only some of them, sometimes none. This is also very annoying/confusing.
How can I get Windows to remember the relative positions of A and B, even when B is switched off, and to stop randomly moving items from one display to another?
I am running Windows 11 Pro 23H2, build 22631.3155. My graphics adapter is a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6GB.
