With Microsoft seemingly looking to quickly replace Outlook "classic" with the new free Outlook (or MS 365 version that can allegedly read files), what is the most recommended PST/OST viewer that can extract e-mails and/or attachments? Thanks in advance.

Why not just use Classic Outlook? It's what I'm using and have zero issues with it. And I use a PST file as my master data file for contacts and stuff.

Or how about this - just use the new Outlook. It now supports PST files, at least for E-mail. I believe that support for address lists is still coming. I am using the new Outlook along with my PST that I have been using for probably at least a decade now and it works perfectly.

Or if you're not a fan of the new Outlook as I'm not, again.... why not stick to classic? Then there's zero worries about PST files or compatibility issues ;-)

BTW, I don't even get asked about "trying the new Outlook" as I've turned that feature off in..... Outlook classic.

But that's me.

I certainly get that there are many persons who would prefer the classic Outlook. Since the original question was about PST support I just wanted to note that this feature has now been added into the new Outlook so if that was the only reason for wanting to find something else that could handle PST files then that is no longer necessary.

It makes no difference to me which way the OP goes, but....

From my understanding while the new Outlook can read PST files, it currently doesn't support Calendars, Contacts, and Tasks, so if that's important to you (it is for me), the new Outlook isn't worth it. And yes, this also goes to the OP's question as that might also be a factor (even though it wasn't mentioned).

Thanks all...the last time I had even tried the new Outlook, I don't recall there being PST functionality. I see it now embedded in settings (with a note that calendar and contacts may be coming later.

Yeah, that's rather new. I've only being using my PST with it for a few weeks now. That was the one thing that was preventing my switch to the new Outlook. But now that I have made the switch, I have to say that I am rather pleased with it.

The only thing in my PST is e-mails so the lack of calendar items, etc. does not affect me.

I keep a PST files for both email achieving as well as contacts, calendars, and if necessary, tasks. In this way, no matter what happens to Outlook, I'll always have this separate data file that can easily be added to Outlook (classic). Add that the data file can be placed anywhere on the PC, though placing in OneDrive may cause sync issues.
