Put Taskbar at Top

Windows 11
I have just updated to Windows 11 (22H2 version)
I prefer the taskbar to be at the top.
W11 taskbar default position is bottom.
“Workarounds” to put it at the top all suggest the same procedure which is :-

1. Alter 2 particular digits from 03 to 01 in the binary code at:-
“HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\StuckRects3”

2. Then restart Windows Explorer in Task Manager.

I have done this, but it doesn’t work, because the binary code reverts to 03 from 01 after Windows Explorer has been restarted.

I have tried to alter “Permissions” under “StuckRects3” with no effect.

It’s confusing and I wasn’t entirely sure what I was changing.

Interestingly, this procedure works fine in W10 because the binary change stays changed.

Can anyone help please – I’ll never get used to a bottom taskbar.

I put taskbar at top for more than 10 years . And I started to use Windows 11 few days ago. I changed Registry like you did, it worked.
But I changed it back and get used to it at bottom in few days.
Because I realize that the personalization I did from my teen to now is all about attentions. (kids Hah:ROFLMAO:)
And I don't need them now.😞

I also just updated to Windows 11 version 22H2 and found the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3 value will not change from '03.'

As with the OP, I've had the Taskbar on top as far back as I can recall, and find this the best for my use. I've always worked alone and it has never been about gaining attention.

Appreciate any way to force the registry change and put my Taskbar back on top?

Try using Winaero Tweaker. I think it does the same thing, but who knows, maybe it works.

Thanks to everyone who responded.
I need to reinstall W11 and try again.
I'll leave this thread open so I can report results when known.

I've tried one of the third-party apps in the past, but it seemed a bit too clunky.
I reverted back to the Win 11 build before 22H2, and will stick with it until there's a MS fix, or I get forced to go to 22H2.

Well it just happened on one of my two PCs: Windows 22H2 was forced on me. Guess I'll have to take another look at the

After holding off the 22H2 as long as possible on my second PC, I did the upgrade and settled on the Start11 solution. It gives good customization, is transparent in operation, and a very reasonable price. I can now live with the 22H2.
