Quite Impressed with DEV version of Edge (116)

Hi folks
Been testing this out on a Linux Debian 12 (Bookworm) test laptop.
Works very well -- suitably impressed -- although I like a menu as per firefox but it's a decent enough browser even on linux.

(Those on debian type of distros whether host or VM and use GUI's can install the downloaded .deb file by installing gdebi which is a front end GUI .deb installer and removes a load of hassle of manually installing and compiling these packages). Debian derivatives such as Arch, Manjaro, and Ubuntu should also work.

In edge on Linux from what I can see, there are a few things I have noticed compared to windows. First, the scaling. I like how the text in the tab, and the address bar makes the most of the space better. Secondly, the font is more crisp and clean looking. And thirdly, it looks like next to the tab option menu there is the account options? It looks weirdly scaled and placed, I prefer it on the right menu bar.

Hi there

In Linux the fonts are more easily adjustable than on Windows - depending on or distro -- due to the nature of the GUI and video options of the system itself. Fonts are adjustable "globally" and per application.

You can also try the canary version too - I'm just sticking with the DEV version though. You can also install BOTH without any problems on the same system. Use qdebi to install the direct downloaded .deb files on debian type distros (Arch, Manjaro, debian, ubuntu etc).

Easy way to install -- with gdebi there's a GUI version -- run sudo gdebi-gtk - then point to the .deb package and simply install

All working perfectly



I think this works better than it does on Windows !!!! -- For those running Linux in a VM why not try it if you don't run Linux as a HOST system. !!!

Have not used any Microsoft browser since the arrival of alternatives (firefox and then Chrome mostly in my case) , now that edge is based on the Chromium Core I may revisit it , but Microsoft's heavy handed forced usage policy has probably annoyed me too much to even try it seriously

Agree on the whole but trying it on Linux removes most of those annoying Windows things -- my usual browser though is still Firefox both on Windows and Linux.

I filed a complaint to MS privacy team about edge synchronization that happened without my explicit consent (just by logging in to outlook in edge) and have stopped using edge for a month or two.
Now I tried edge again (because it was fresh installed system) and the first thing I did is trying to log in to outlook to see if this would lead to old privacy problem and it appears they fixed the issue.

That's certainly a plus from me toward MS, even though Edge is annoying with prompts such as "Do you want to reset browser settings to Microsoft recommended defaults" if nothing else at least somebody is listening on the other side.

I use edge and firefox, but mainly edge. I see nothing wrong with edge, it is faster and uses less ram than chrome. However Microsoft’s usage practises are abysmal to say the least.

I use Chrome as it's the default Browser Built into my Android phones and tablets, I also use a number of home automation systems [Cameras and device control], from Google and things such as medication management, [ I take 25 Prescribed meds a day ]
