Solved Random ks.sys Bsod

This has been happening very randomly on my sons pc for over a month now.
I have removed and updated chipset and video drivers, ran sfc, in-place upgrade, windows memory diagnostics, and mem-testx86. No fails on anything.
I am inclined to think it his a game he installed.
Pc is oc'd I have set all settings to default still does not help. Other than this random Bsod there has never been any lockups or freezing.
Current bios, all drivers are up to date.
His specs are
32Gb G skill ripjaws v f4
Asus tuff gaming X570-plus wifi
Ryzen 7 3700x
Radeon 5600Xt
Audio is connected via Hdmi to Recevier
Realtek on board sound card is active for headset use
Adata sx8200 500GB,1TB Nvme ssd
3 3TB seagate st300dm001 In Raid 5 Game storage via Dell Perc H700
2 Lg Bluray burners
Corsair RM750x
Temps are all in range
Pc has been running flawless for around a year.

See uninstalling Norton 360 will resolve the problem.

1. If you have Norton Family installed, uninstall it before you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
2. Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
   
   Save the file to the Windows desktop. On some browsers, the file is automatically saved to its default location.
3. To open the Downloads window in your browser, press the Ctrl + J key.
4. Double-click the NRnR icon.
5. Read the license agreement, and click Agree.
6. Click Advanced Options.
7. Click Remove Only.
8. Click Remove.
9. Click Restart Now.
   
   

Reinstalling Norton did not fix issue.

Are you saying uninstalling Norton antivirus did not resolve the BSOD error?

Have you scanned for malware infection?

Have you checked Device Manager for driver error?

1. Type “cmd” into the Search box.
2. Right-click Command Prompt in the search results and select “Run as administrator”.
3. Type or paste “chkdsk /f C:” into the window and hit the Enter key.

When the operation concludes, reboot your machine.


Your attachment does not include memory dump files.

That is correct. There is no disk errors . All drivers are up to date.
There are no viruses or malware.

There were no dump files collected.

Some of the V2 log collector files were missing.


Make sure all non-Microsoft antivirus software remains uninstalled during the troubleshooting.


Open Ccleaner > click windows tab or custom clean > scroll down to system and advanced > post an image into this thread
(please do not run the software.

I had that bugcheck code before, pointing to Adrenalin, IIRC, because of a bug in Adrenalin, especially if the version of Adrenalin is sometime before 20.5.1, such as for example, 20.3.1.

That bugcheck code, is most likely not faulty hardware or a bad CPU overclock.

I had to fresh install windows. I use ddu when I install new video drivers. 3 weeks of trying to chase things down is long enough. His PC is the only one with games and with all the anti cheat crap that gets installed nowadays who knows what it killed. Thanks for the help.

Just a update. The issue came back after I put back in his room. It has to with when he turns his tv off. Hdmi to Integra receiver that goes to his Samsung tv. ow just need to get this sorted.

It could be faulty hardware causing the BSoD problem.

Unplugged power to tv fixed it. The anynet+ was messed up. Of all the things.....

I have just newly built a machine (Intel 285k CPU but AMD RX 9070 XT GPU) and am having this exact problem. Brand new Windows 11 install. It has happened twice, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION in ks.sys, both times exactly when turning off a TV connected to a receiver, same as the OP. In my case it is a Sony TV and Sony Receiver but otherwise the same - the PC is connected to the receiver with HDMI.

I analyzed my minidumps with WinDbg and found the driver atihdwt6.sys both times prominently in the stack. That is the "AMD High Definition Audio Device" driver and so I suspect it to be the culprit. I have disabled this driver in Computer Management as a test, and since then have not had any more blue screens, but I am still monitoring the situation.

I am pretty sure it is nothing wrong with my new computer, but some kind of corner case driver bug with this AMD High Definition Audio Device driver, and I've submitted a bug report to AMD that includes the minidumps.

Sorry for the necropost, but I'm pretty sure it is the exact same issue and probably the same bug in the same driver that hit the OP.

@GUMBY out of curiosity, how were you able to determine that it was the HDMI-CEC (what Samsung calls Anynet+) causing the crash? It seems entirely plausible to me (Sony calls it Bravia Sync) but I'm wondering how you reached this conclusion.

You might not remember as this is an older thread.

My system is still stable since disabling the "AMD High Definition Audio Device" driver (atihdwt6.sys) and the TV has been on and off quite a few times now causing no issues. I'm going to keep monitoring with it disabled for another week or so to be certain. I think it is entirely plausible that HDMI-CEC, which has a feature that can tell other devices to "power off" when the TV is powered off, might be causing the crash - for instance, if the TV is sending an HDMI-CEC message to the computer to try to tell it to turn off or something, and this message is not being handled properly by the computer causing the AMD High Definition Audio Device driver to crash the ks.sys driver, causing the BSOD. But the only evidence I have that HDMI-CEC is involved is your reply mentioning Anynet+.

Interestingly, it is the same crash as in this thread: Help Resolving PC Restarts When TV is Powered On

Except the TV is being turned on in that case instead of off. In my case and this case and the case of two instances I found on reddit, it is when the television is powered off. When downloading the dump files from that thread and loading into WinDbg I see the same SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) in ks.sys triggered by AtihdWT6.
