Read Any Good Books Lately?

I have just finished The Hunt for Red Oktober, got the film but glad I read the book, its so much better than the film.
Patrick Ruthfoss The Kingkiller Chronicles. Excellent 3 out to date, just bought the third off Amazon Kindle.
Several NASA Science and Astronomy books, one by Asif something lists every single space flight and failures including those many many flights that went wrong by the soviets. NATO amd NASA told us the Cosmos series were spy sats; no they weren't, they were low orbit failures to mars and venus and the moon which the soviets renamed that never got past second stage blow outs. 90 off percent of early soviet stuff was explosive to say the least.

Oh I read zillions of books on kindle. I must admit going into book stores and browsing so you see lots of choices unlike online where you kind of need to decide what you are looking for.

Its rather like the old cd jukeboxes where you pressed a button to see what was there and you thought "I haven't played that for a while" and then selected it.

Modern online jukeboxes have literally millions of choices and that is the problem - far too many to just browse, so you have to decide what to play.

Kindle is more or less the same.

However, I do not miss physical books as a medium per se.

I enjoyed The Fear Index by Robert Harris -- infinitely better than the rather disappointing TV series.

@cereberus -- I travel (even these days) quite regularly and reading via kindle is always great -- when in an airport and people are yelling and screaming over delays / luggage etc -- I just quietly read on the kindle. There's no point in getting worked up like so many do over events you have absolutely zero control.

Incidently there's no problem in using epub e-book format for kindles -- simply use that excellent Free Calibre program to convert to MOBI / AZI3 kindle format (or vice versa).

“The Blue Fox” by Sjon. Excellent and fairly short novel. In Icelandic the title is “Skugga-Baldur”. You will appreciate the book even more if you read about that mythical creature first - a cross between a cat and a fox.

DONT get Patricks third book, its more than boring, and I fall asleep everytime I open it. This one is all about Aria, not Kvotte. How anyone cam wrote a book about life in a cellar is beyond me. Sorry I bought it.

I have just about finished the entire Belgariad, Mallorean, Elenium and Tamuli volumes. I read the entire set about every 3 years. Although they are excellent stories, I cannot give the author, David Eddings, more than 7/10 because he copies his 'good ideas' across the volumes and reptition can be easily spotted.
