Windows 11 Pro + Win11 Canary VM.
I have always used a battery powered mouse but the battery covers are always flimsy and if you drop them the batteries always spring out and move at "tonenail clipping speed" i.e. close to Mach 1) and find a nice place to hide under the heaviest sofa or sideboard.

Even when you recover the batteries, the cover is lost in the darkest recesses somewhere.

Upon reassembly, I get top grade duct tape to hold the cover but the covers are cunningly designed so any tape can only over lap by 1mm or less!

Finally, I wailed to unspecified deities and decided to buy a rechargeable mouse. The time you get between charges is only a couple of weeks or so, but mouse still works if plugged in to usb port for charging.

Only problem is mouse is so thin now, the whole mouse can go into hiding under sofa lol.

Sounds to me as though you need to check out some other brands/designs of battery-powered mice. My Logi 510 mice have good, strong battery-compartment covers, and they survive dropping (within reason; I wouldn't try a drop from a penthouse window to a concrete pavement :eek1::eek1::sick:)

I "lose" cordless mice with regular monotony so no point in buying expensive ones lol

They always turn up after new mouse arrives from Amazon of course. Yep even one in the fridge - just kidding but they do end up in some strange places - you know walk from pc still holding mouse, put it down blah blah blah)

I have this new idea of tying the cordless mouse to pc with a bit of string but something is not gelling with that idea lol.

With a bit of imagination, you can think of a corded mouse (faster; more accurate) as a cordless mouse with a bit of string attached. Problem solved. :thumbsup:

On my work pc desk at home, I went back to a corded mouse but tied lengthy cord in a loop around a desk leg, so if I drop it, it just dangles in air rather than hitting floor. Mice plus gravity do not go well together ha ha.

Well, haha, sounds to me like the physics of the mouse plunging off the desk while tied to the leg would dictate that the mouse must. slam into the leg at the bottom of its arc.

Better to tie it to your neck … but I can see how that might hamper your ability to move, and pose a choking risk to you.

Oh well, back to the drawing board. [grin]

Yeah I will have to set up a finite element analysis using Ansisys. It will only cost me £20K for a short term lease plus about 2 weeks of labour.

Well, I’m not sure whether I accept that or not. Perhaps I’ll just take a “neither” stand on the issue, but a firm neither stand, you understand.
