Recommendations for bootable ISOs to add to Ventoy

I keep trying apps that claim to make a bootable iso from a bootable USB, but they all assume that the USB contains a Windows PE or RE directory setup and all fail to make an iso that Ventoy can boot from.

ImgBurn and ISO Workshop are two I tried today.

Lancer _x64 wont work for the unusual construction of diskgenius boot media.

I have done a special one for diskgenius.

Copy and paste the diskgenius usb stick to a hard drive.
Rt click the usb stick and select copy. Rt click on a hard drive partition and select paste.
So you have a folder e.g. C:\DISKGENIUS ( it will have the same name as the usb stick)

then run the .cmd file and browse to C:\DISKGENIUS
Do not browse to a sub folder inside C:\DISKGENIUS

I made a diskgenius usb stick and tested the above .

There is an *.efi file here?

Please don't spend time on this unless it is fun for you.

there should be bootmgr.efi if the usb stick is efi bootable.

if it is not efi bootable, it wont be there.

The DiskGenius USB is definitely UEFI and MBR bootable.

You really only need to copy the file Boot.wim from the folder DiskGenius - Boot (and optionally rename the file to something like, e.g., DiskGenius 5.5.1.1508 x64.wim to make it easier for you to see what exactly this one is) to the root of the VENTOY partition that's on your USB flash drive. Aside from this, you also need to make sure that you have installed the Wimboot plugin for Ventoy before you boot from the USB flash drive. (For this, you need to create a new folder named ventoy in the root of the VENTOY partition, and then copy the file ventoy_wimboot.img into this folder like has been explained here.)

Try disabling Secure Boot in the UEFI settings of your motherboard.

And you also changed the boot priority order so that the USB flash drive is now the 1st option in that list?

It creates the iso with hybrid boot sector, but the wim doesnt load on ventoy without bootmgr.efi

But the file bootmgr.efi is right there inside the Boot.wim just where it should be:



DiskGenius says that creating the bootable USB flash drive doesn't destroy any files that are already present on the USB flash drive, but I suspect that it still mucks up your Ventoy on your USB flash drive if Ventoy has been previously already installed on it. If my suspicion is correct, then you should still be able to simply copy the Boot.wim from DiskGenius off of the USB flash drive, reinstall Ventoy (and its Wimboot plugin) on the USB flash drive, and finally copy the Boot.wim back onto the USB flash drive. I also suggest to verify the SHA-1 hash code of the bootmgr.efi just in case. Maybe your installation of your Windows ADK (and of the WinPE addons thereof) is what has expired, as the Error Code 0xc0000605 translates to "A component of the operating system has expired".

I made the DiskGenius bootable USB on its own device and then copied its boot.wim to the Ventoy USB. DG does appear in the list when you boot the Ventoy USB, but it crashes my computer. I never tried to install DG on the Ventoy USB. DG formats the USB before installing files.

I think it is Ventoy which says it does not do a destructive install. So I might format a USB, install DG and then install Ventoy on top of DG.

You were correct, so I will install DG onto the Ventoy USB and see what happens.

Yes. I see the Ventoy GUI and all the other iso's boot OK.

Could you verify the hash code of the file Windows\Boot\EFI\bootmgr.efi (that's inside the DiskGenius - Boot\Boot.wim) with 7-Zip?

Neither one of those two programs let you manage your partitions. (DiskGenius Free is more akin to MiniTool Partition Wizard Free.)
