Solved Remove drive from "Safely Remove"

Hello all,

I have a Seagate HDD installed in my system, yet the drive always shows up under "Safely Remove Hardware". Is there a way that I can stop that drive from showing up. It's the only item that is on that menu.

System specs are updated.

One thing to try: See if you can disable “Hot Plugging” for that SATA drive in your BIOS.
Windows can interpret a Hot Plugged SATA device as removable, if that makes sense?

Maybe this for your Motherboard, according to the interwebs:

Boot to BIOS & switch to Advanced Mode
- Press F7 to toggle from EZ Mode to Advanced Mode.
Navigate to SATA Settings
- Go to: Settings > Advanced > Integrated Peripherals > SATA Configuration.
Locate Your Drive’s Port
- You’ll see a list of SATA ports (SATA1, SATA2, etc.).
- Identify which port your HDD/SSD is connected to.
Disable Hot Plug
- For that port, change Hot Plug from Enabled to Disabled.
Save & Exit
- Press F10 to save changes and reboot.

One of the first things I do when I build a PC is enable hot plugging. A tiny little notification in my sys tray isn't going to bother me as much as a damaged drive will. By enabling hot plugging your drives are better protected. This won't offer complete protection but at least it is something for in the event you accidentally disconnect a drive when it is powered up. I'm wondering about this notification, whether it is merely a small pop up when you mouse over the icon in your sys tray or something more permanent.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.

SATA hot plugging means connecting or disconnecting a SATA drive while the computer is powered on. Yes, it can be turned off in BIOS/UEFI without compromising the drive—disabling hot plug simply removes the ability to safely swap drives while the system is running, but it does not affect normal operation of the drive when connected at boot

What’s the security risk you’re referring to? Or what better protection?

If one has a caddy that they’re housing the SATA in and use that caddy to remove the drive from the PC and utilise it somewhere else, then I would say you would have a problem if disabling it.
If you don’t use a removable caddy, then no foul?

I.e. I added a new Multi String Value called TreatAsInternalPort to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\Parameters\Device with the value:

- Identify which port your HDD/SSD is connected to.

Went into my BIOS and while I have hot swapping disabled, it looks like I attached the drive to one of the expansion SATA ports (Port A_4) instead of one of the regular SATA ports.

I'll open up my system later and move the HDD after looking at the mobo manual and ensure it's hooked up to one of the regular SATA ports.

I'll mark this solved (at least for now) and if I need to revisit later, I'll edit the original post.
