Removing office 2016 key code

My MS office 2016 has been de activated. I have a new key code - which is rejected. I suspect the previous code is still captive somewhere , and I want to remove it.
I have tried many routes to do this without success.
I think I will remove 2016, and replace with 2019. I will remove 2016 using revo.
Will this also remove any evidence of the previous 2016 code?
Some say it will, others differ.

Removing Office with Revo does not remove the activation remnants. For a clean removal of Office 2016 it must be removed using SaRA tool (Support and recovery assistant.
This is the only Microsoft‑supported method for a true “clean slate.”

If Office has already been uninstalled , you have to use command prompt as administrator. The folder path is different depending on whether your version of Office 2016 is MSI or click-to-run.

For MSI version:
cd "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16"
If you have 32‑bit Office on 64‑bit Windows, use:
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16"
If neither of the above folders exist, you installed Office via Click‑to‑Run. so the folder path would be
cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform"

See what license is still installed
cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

This shows:

• What product key is still present
• Whether it’s activated
• The last 5 characters of the installed key are important

Remove Old Office 2016 key
Use the last 5 characters from /dstatus in following command:
cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:XXXXX

Clear token store. This Resets the activation system
cscript ospp.vbs /rearm

Restart to flush licensing cache. .
