Hello,
Is it possible to completely remove the mentioned above from my start menu? I know I can click directly into search to avoid seeing it entirely but I want it gone. Thank you in advance for any possible help.

Hi, welcome.

Running this registry should work unless things have changed in recent updates. No harm done anyway. There's a do and an undo in the zip file.

Log out then back in after running the "Disable web search.reg"
I'm not sure about the top apps though.

Try this for the Top Apps issue (should hopefully also reflect in the search)

Disabling "Show most used apps" in Start Settings:
  • Open Settings: Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
  • Navigate to Personalization: Click on "Personalization" in the left sidebar.
  • Go to Start: Select "Start" on the right side.
  • Toggle off "Show most used apps": Find the "Show most used apps" option and toggle it to the off position.

Welcome to the forum. Our forum section has hundred of tweaks. You will find all kinds of goodies there.

Here's one for search highlights
--------------------------------------------------------
Here's a couple to tidy up windows search if you're interested..

CORRECTION. I found out that the following is including in the above tutorial
--------------------------------------------------
This one really botherd me...Disable Bing web search in windows search. I hated seeing Bing web search when I was searching windows. IMO Bing belongs in the browser, not in windows search. I found this in an obscure Microsoft forum thread. AFAIK our Brink does not have a tutorial for this. If he does I can't find it. These are the instructions if you want to change it.. It worked for me.

  • In Registry Editor browse to the following path Right click on the main key and export it to a file in case you make a mistake and need to import it back in. : Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
  • Right-click on the Windows folder and select New > Key. Name the key Explorer
  • Right-click on the newly created Explorer folder and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name this value DisableSearchBoxSuggestions
  • Double-click the DisableSearchBoxSuggestions to edit its value data. Type 1 in the Value data field and then click OK
  • Now, navigate to the following path in the Registry Editor: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
  • On the right sidebar of the Search folder, right-click on the free space and then select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it BingSearchEnabled.
  • Double-click on BingSearchEnabled to edit its value. Set the Value data to 0 and then click OK.
  • restart

Unfortunately this didn't get rid of the "top apps", thanks though.

Thank you, I'll look through the excel sheet, unfortunately none of the other options worked for me.

Thanks, unfortunately this didn't do anything for me. That main "start" menu is fine, but the " search for apps settings and documents " menu still shows everything.
