I'm still in setup. Every time I reinstall and get to this page it hangs for over an hour at step 1 downloading at 97%. I wish I had faster internet but I have to make do with what I have.

As I wait around it occurs to me it would be so much easier if my name was David or Peter or Jimbo or Klutz. I could just get an email account and name it David427639@emaildotdomain or something like that and set it as my primary Microsoft account address and then Windows would automatically name my user folder "David" from the get go and save me all this trouble.

If I don't succeed this time I will go out and legally change my first name to a five letter name and then just set up Windows the usual default way.

I removed the last post I made. I am actually unsure about the nameing of Microsoft Account with RUFUS, I’ve only ever named a local. It would need some testing and I don’t have time just at the moment.

I changed the user folder 5 letter name (which is the first 5 letters of my microsoft email address), and now there is a problem. I didn't know this, but supposedly if the desktop folder is marked for backup with OneDrive, this folder (desktop folder) is moved to the OneDrive folder. Anyway...

If the new profile folder name isn't properly changed in the registry, it will cause issues like this.

The person in that thread followed a YouTube video that had incomplete instructions. Specifically, they did not create the symbolic link that Brink's tutorial mentions.

Brink's method is complete. There's a reason we say In Brink We Trust.

okay the pages I see in my clean install are not what is shown in the screenshots in that tutorial because my Dell PC setup already has things like country and keyboard layout set up. So now I'm at this page and I am afraid I will screw up again. Do I click sign in and then execute the command prompt step, or do I do it now while I'm on this page?

I believe I have succeeded! I have a question, is defaultuser0 a folder I need to keep and simply ignore or set to hidden, or can I safely delete it?

The defaultuser0 account is a system-generated profile created during the Windows setup process, specifically during the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE). It serves as a placeholder and is designed to be automatically deleted once the setup is completed and a new user account is created. If the setup is interrupted, the defaultuser0 account may remain on the system. It is generally safe to delete this account, as it should not be needed after the initial setup.

It won't hurt to leave it if wanted.
