Yesterday, after reconnecting the computer upon return from the shop, one of the first things I did was to log on to Centurylink Email after changing the password to the one created by the shop. All seemed to be okay, until I found that the old messages that I had supposedly deleted kept recurring, even after I tried to remove them in Thunderbird.

This morning I found that there was supposedly no way to close email. The usual trick of closing Firefox and restarting, as had been supplied here did not work; even a restart did not stop Clink email. This works in both Edge and Google Chrome.

It certainly seems to be time for a new email program. Suggestions?

Yahoo would be my absolute last choice.. They have never provided the security that other email providers have to protect their users.

I've never had a problem with yahoo since using it from 2002 'til now, still using it. You need to have good security running (sometimes in 'layers' ) running. Realtime layers, such as Malwarebytes running with Windows Defender or another Paid for Antivirus protection as I have... Avira

What did the shop do exactly? If they created a new Thunderbird profile, and your CenturyLink account is POP, and messages were left on the server then that's completely normal behaviour. In that case, a different desktop email client will give the same results.

I don't understand what you mean in your second paragraph where you said "there was supposedly no way to close email. The usual trick of closing Firefox and restarting, as had been supplied here did not work". Please clarify.

I thought I had replied to this; perhaps elsewhere, perhaps who knows.

I don't know the details, but there is no new profile of which I am aware.

IMAP, IMAP, not pop.

How can I explain that I now can not stop Clink if I have logged on to it directly, rather than through Thunderbird. I had to return to the shop the day after getting back on line as Thunderbird had stopped receiving; all seems well now, (unless Tb reads this.)

A few days ago, I discovered that Centurylink had actually fixed something: Now, if I have been connected to its email on-line, all I have to do to close the program is to delete the tab in my browser.

I wonder if there is any way to stop it from constantly sending me useless messages, often from two to three days ago. Apparently, but not proven, if I delete a set of those useless message headers before it has finished sending all of them, the deleted ones reappear.
