Good morning.
I ask how to insert the Capture Tool App in the context menu, I have searched in the specific section of the forum, but I have not found it.
Thank you

I needed to add 3 new files to make this context menu less janky:
  • reg file for the context menu
  • VBS script to silently launch Screen Sketch (so a CMD shell doesn't flash)
  • copy of the old SnippingTool.exe (for displaying an icon)
1. Create Add_Context_Menu.reg:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shell\ScreenSketch]
@="Snipping Tool"
"Icon"="C:\\Users\\GARLIN\\Downloads\\SnippingTool.exe"
"Position"="Top"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\Background\shell\ScreenSketch\command]
@="wscript.exe C:\\Users\\GARLIN\\Downloads\\ScreenSketch.vbs"

2. Create ScreenSketch.vbs in a folder:
Code:
CreateObject("Wscript.Shell").Run "cmd.exe /c start ms-screensketch:", 0, False

3. Extract \Windows\System32\SnippingTool.exe from an older W10 ISO (with 7-Zip). We're not running it, just need it to show an icon. Otherwise you don't have access to Screen Sketch's protected visual Assets. I'm sure someone else can figure which graphics file is the right one, but it won't be me.

It works, but the icon remains empty.

I checked in the path "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps"
the file appears with different name "Microsoft.ScreenSketch_11.2201.12.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe"
I assume this is relative to each Windows installation.
Even replacing with this name the icon remains empty, I don't understand where I'm going wrong.
Thank you

Avoiding connecting with Microsoft Store, I solved with an intermediate solution.
I copied the file "SnippingTool.exe" in the path "C:\Windows\System32" and I modified the registry key:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\SnippingTool]
@="Snipping Tool"
"icon"="%windir%\\system32\\SnippingTool.exe"
"Position"="Top"

@="C:\\Windows\\explorer.exe ms-screenclip:"

Manually copying files to C:\Windows\System32 is not recommended. If you prefer, you can upgrade just the Snipping Tool app by opening an elevated command prompt and running this command:
winget upgrade -h --id Microsoft.ScreenSketch_8wekyb3d8bbwe

...Or, alternatively, edit the .reg file so it points to your outdated version of the Snipping Tool:
"Icon"="%programfiles%\\WindowsApps\\Microsoft.ScreenSketch_11.2201.12.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\\SnippingTool\\SnippingTool.exe,0"

Shell folder location:
shell:screenshots
By default, that one points to:
%userprofile%\Pictures\Screenshots
You can, however, change this default location of Screenshots by moving this entire folder somewhere else. To find out how, see the explanation at the bottom of Section 2 in this article:
