Windows 10 and 11 Pro (Win 11 unable to reinstall due to latest MS issue)
Hi All

Windows11Pro 24H2 Build 26100.3915

When creating a new folder it doesnt allow naming straight away.
Further issue, right hand mouse click when selecting the folder or a file the file name area is not accessible or opens with cursor to ammend the folder/file name.
The only workaround Ive found is right hand mouse, properties and rename it there. This is a pain and of course removes bulkd renaming a collection of files ie Holiday photo 1,2,3,4 etc,
Ive never heard or had thsi issue before and noting on my web searches it seems to pop up with no solution.
I am on a new build/new install PC and it was working. Then it didn't. Then it did and again now its gone again.

Anyone hit this before and able to help with a solution please?

Many thanks

M

Would you create a test file and see if this works.
Select a file or folder. Once the file is selected, press F2 to highlight the name of the file.
Start typing to rename the file then enter
Does that change the name.

Yes it does - thank you for the another workaround.

In this case is there any way to macro (manually or reg tweak, dont mind as new system install and OS install has a backup imaged), so to attribute the right hand mouse option so rename works - habitual muscle memory :win:

ADDUM - Ok fixed - for now.

I thought before responding above, Id check mouse options. Couldnt see anything relevant except for the below which is a cursor highlight. So switched it off.

Went back and tried as normal. Its working again.
The frustrating thing is I didnt try the right hand mouse click straight after using the F2 method. So not sure if the F2 unlocked it, or personally I think unlikely, selecting and deselecting the below.

Anyway - thank you - simples and sorted! :D
