RTX 3080 black screen while gaming - LiveKernelEvent 141 (nvlddmkm)

Hello,

I recently installed a used ASUS TUF RTX 3080 Gaming OC.

System Specs:
- Intel Core i9-14900KF
- ASUS Prime B760-PLUS
- ASUS TUF RTX 3080 Gaming OC 10GB
- Windows 11 24H2
- Latest NVIDIA driver

Issue:

The PC works perfectly during normal desktop use, browsing and videos.

However, while gaming, the screen suddenly goes black and the game crashes. Windows reports:

LiveKernelEvent 141
nvlddmkm

Observations:

- GPU temperatures are normal.
- GPU hotspot temperature is normal.
- Memory junction temperature is normal.
- No WHEA errors are reported.
- HWiNFO shows PCI Express Error Counters increasing slowly.
- Recovery Count increases over time.
- No PCIe Lane Errors are reported.

What I already tried:

- Clean NVIDIA driver installation.
- Reseated the GPU.
- Checked PCIe power cables.
- Reset all GPU settings to stock.

Could this be related to:
- GPU hardware failure?
- PCIe slot issue?
- PCIe signal integrity problem?
- Power delivery problem?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Quite common with the newer Nvidia drivers, when it happens to me it's always on Edge browser

Thanks. In my case, it never happens in Edge or during normal desktop use. It only happens while gaming, especially in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Hellblade II, and occasionally Psychonauts 2.

Your GPU fans aren't running.



I use MSI Afterburner (works with any brand GPU) to turn my fans on.

Is your card overclocked, recent drivers seem to be very sensitive to any overclocks, even clocks that have been stable for years

Some GPU's turn off the fans if usage is low, according to the ASUS website:

it starting doing this with my fans on my 5000 series card, the later year of Nvidia driver sucks bad..

Install an older driver.
The latest driver is essentially a Beta driver for their latest GPU range which you don't have (RTX 3080 around 5 years old) and may eventually be deleted from the Driver list.

So there is a vast choice with Nvidia issuing maybe 12 drivers a year or something. Keep going backwards until you find a good one.

No game ReadMe will say anything other than "install the latest driver". In 25 years of using Nvidia drivers I have only installed the latest once.

Exactly, that is even more of an indicator you need an older driver.

The newer drivers cause problems even on 50-series cards.
