This has made itself known to me today via Windows Update as an optional update.

This isn't even a Dell PC though; it's a HP. I thought only Dell PCs were affected ?

Should I go ahead, or just ignore ?

The way I understand it is that KB5121767 is cumulative so it won’t hurt anything to install it in addition to KB5101650. But if you didn’t install KB5101650 then installing KB5121767 will include everting from KB5101650 AND it will correct the Dell specific issue.

To quote MS support about KB5121767 “This out-of-band (OOB) update for Windows 11, version 25H2 and Windows 11, version 24H2 (KB5121767) is cumulative. It includes all improvements from previous security and non-security updates, along with an additional fix.”

Apologies for the delay in replying.

So, KB5101650 is already installed (just checked via Update History).

What I want to know though is : is it worth installing it on this HP PC ?

I don't want to harm things by taking a risk. In theory, it shouldn't upset things, but I can't be 100% sure.

If you're not on an affected PC (overheating, battery drain, etc.), then you can ignore the update. If you do install it, it probably won't do anything to your PC.

I reckon it's being offered even on non-affected PCs because it's listed as a replacement for the Patch Tuesday update.
