OS
Windows 11 Pro + Win11 Canary VM.
With the recent builds of the Dev Channel, one major irritation of Sandbox has now been fixed i.e. Windows retains its status after a reboot (a full shutdown still wipes everything). This means you can now install apps that require a reboot to finish installation.

I just wonder how many of you guys out there actually use Sandbox. About the only use I see for it over a securely set up VM is the ability to quickly install an app and try it very quickly.

Thoughts?

Hi there
Posted on W10 -- Since I can easily make as many Windows installations as I want using physical vhdx files - and they are digitally activated too - I don't see the need for sandbox any more. Simple to create a windows vhdx system as a testbed -- much better idea , persistence, real hardware, better performance etc. Also has advantage that the Windows system doesn't interfere with any other windows system,

For those that have never tried (you can also create on extenal drives that bootrunning Windows systems as full windows systems -- not just install images ) create a windows system using vhdx file and dism /Apply-Image.

VM's as @cereberus mentioned in the W10 thread are more secure but for testing real hardware VM's aren't always appropriate. There is some security aspect as in theory one windows os can contaminate other vhdx files on the same disk -- however in normal use this shouldn't happen and i'd imagine people sophisticated enough to design different test beds would be carefull to avoid doing that.

Cheers
