Hi my screen flickers, sometimes not, sometimes now and then, sometimes all the time.
Anybody knows what it is? is it Monitor? cable? GPU on my CPU? Something else?

edit: i had to capture the video with my phone, because if i use screen record the screen looks normal, maybe that's handy to know to diagnose the problem I have

Hi. When I've had this it's usually either the screen starting to fail or - the graphics driver needs updating. It's possible it's a loose cable but unless you've done something that might cause a loose cable, I'd try finding the latest graphics driver first. What model Acer computer is it?

Nope. No violations lol. Sorry, I never saw this thread. What GPU do you have, What monitors do you use and do you game (is VRR & HDR on)?

Maybe the monitor is just too old, i have this PC since 2018, and its the monitor from my old pc i had before which I have used for like 10 years, and I used that monitor on the old pc, but I think I used to have another monitor on that pc too. so the monitor I have is somewhere between 7 and 17 years old.

I tried finding graphics driver, but I cannot install it from the Intel site as it says my computer is locked by manufacturer or something like that.

Loose cable could have happened when about 2 years ago I installed a Ikea bookcase near my computer and a accident happened where my computer fell from my desk on the ground. But all I saw was the power socket being a little bit loose, never fixed that. But this strange screen fliker happened recently.

I must say for years though, my screen would sometimes turn black, usually when mulittasking while watching youtube, sometimes whole screen black for a few minutes, sometimes just the video black, sometimes the video still showing albeit frozen while rest of the screen black. always usually between 1 or 2 seconds , though sometimes a couple of times in a row. I don't know if this is related.

I don't usually game, and if i do it's more retro themed like Cuphead or Thimbleweed Park.

My GPU is just the onboard one on my Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.19 GHz

First follow these instructions to disconnect your computer :

Fortunately, your Windows 11 work or school account can be removed completely and it is quite easy: Step 1: Go to Windows 11 settings with Windows Key and I on the keyboard. Step 2: Click the Accounts section in the sidebar. Step 3: Click Access work or school and click the Disconnect button.

there is a connect button, so i assume i am not connected to work or school, I am not in school, and lost my job last year, but that one did not involve a computer account.

Sorry had a typo. *Violations, not visitations 😂. Ok then I highly doubt it’s VRR flicker, unless you’re using an OLED monitor.

Also - what input are you using? HDMI? Do you have an alternate connection method that you can test to eliminate that as a possibility?

I think it's just LCD
yeah I know very old.
connected with VGA cable, there is not a HDMI connector. Maybe I should just buy a new monitor. Though i am not 100% sure the flicker comes from monitor and not the computer or drivers.

Boot into safe mode and see if the flicker happens there. Safe mode will use the basic display adapter drivers so can eliminate that possibility if it does flicker in safe mode.

You need to use safe mode with networking

After making sure graphic driver is up to date, if the issue remains, I would use process of elimination. You can eliminate cable and monitor being the issue by trying the cable and monitor on another computer. If the trouble follows, replace cable. If it still happens, it's the monitor. If it's all good on another machine, problem is specific to your machine. Possibility interference on mobo or your onboard graphics.
If there is not another computer in you home to test this with, maybe a friend would allow you to use theirs long enough to prove which direction your trouble lies.

I will when I am able too

Actually just had a lot of flicker,
restarted in safe mode with networking, no flicker there.
No restarted in normal mode again, also no flicker now.
So I assume its not the monitor, otherwise flicker would be constant I guess, or am I wrong on that.

Go to settings and on the left click personalization, then colors on the right. Make sure transparency effects is off. I have an old monitor that will flicker when this is set to on.

Try these in order for testing:

Set scaling to 100%/turn off custom scaling.

Run calibration on the monitor itself via the onscreen menu.

Go to device manager and change graphics driver to Microsoft basic display

Have done that all already. I guess calibration on monitor is same as auto scale

Also I already have the microsoft basic display driver, as i cannot find drivers for my monitor on the acer webiste
